He asked Mr. Nixon for a: high priority for the project. As soon as the environmental approval is received, the Army Engineers expect to come in and widen and deepen the Shobe Creek channel. The Army Engineers will pay for that work which is expected to cost near ly $60,000. However, the project cannot be completed unless the bon,d issue passes to provide money for moving the sewer and water pipes. Add Garbage Equals No Blow In County This week saw another step in the development of Boeing land for agriculture. The first two loads of household garbage came from Portland on Tues day. This had been through a hammer mill and grinder and includes glass and tin. It has been reduced to small particles. About 200 tons will be required to cover the 6-acre test plot. It will be covered with 2 inches, 4 inches, 6 inches and 12 inches. This will be disced into the soil and irrigated. A cover crop of alfalfa and pasture grass will be planted. It is expected to be completed by the 10th of September. . Elton Weekes, Boeing's pro ject manager, is excited about this new venture. They returned home on Wednesday with Mrs. Portner taking them as far as The Dal les. Mrs. Jack Wilsey spent a few days in Pendleton last week on business. Visiting this week at the Wilsey's is their grand son Walt Bjur of Newberg. They met his family in The Dalles Saturday for a picnic at Sordsls Park, then brought Walt on home with them. Mrs. Larry UNeall and son Chad were business visitors to The Dalles last Monday. Mr. and Mrs. John Nelson be came the parents of a daughter Monday, Aug. 16 at the Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner. The baby weighed 6 lb., 13 oz., and has been named Stormie Eileen.
