County Ministers
Working Hard
The last meeting of the South
Morrow Ministerial Association
held, April 7, was a busy affair.
Several new committees were
formed, and several matters con
sidered.
Don Johnson, chairman, Ed
Cutting, and Bill Arthur make
up the new committee on Com
munlty Relations. A committee
for Youth Activities will have
Bill Arthur and Don Burwell as
advisors and other members will
be selected by each Interested
church and will Include youth
and adults.
Consideration Is being given
to the possibility of having a
FISH group here in the Heppner
area similar to the community-
help organizations by that name
Hermlston, Pendleton, and
elsewhere.
Only one more association
meeting will be held this spring.
On May 5, the association will
meet at the lone United Church
of Christ. The ministers will
then stop their regular group
meetings until next fall.
The "Know Yur State Gov

lorn waa pleasant and educe.
tlonal to Herb Ekstrom, Ion
Dee Ann Pettyjohn, Heppner,
who were delegate from this
county. Delegates heard out
standing speakers, sat In on
cessions in the State Senate and
House of Representatives, and
toured the capltol building, the
Pimreme Court Room, ana tne
Willamette University campus,
Both delegates had tho oppor
lunlty to visit with Irvln Mann
who Is the representative irom
this area and Kenneth Jernstedt,
our senator. Some of the speak
ers they heard were: State
Treasurer. Robert Straub who
spoke about ecology and pollu
tion: RcDrcsenatlve KoDert in
galls, Benton County who talked
about the legislature ana cur
rent legislation, and most ex
chin of all. they had lunch
with Governor McCall and heard
him speak about 'The Governor
as the Governor Sees Him."
Before the conference con
eluded the Oregon delegates to
the national 4-H conference
were announced: Cheryl Brown,
McMinnvllle; Joan Crook, Beav-
crton Montle Bates, Grants Pass,
Robin Edwards, Bend. The na
tional conference is taking place
In Washington, D. C, from Ap
ril 18 to 23.
One of the most Impressive
matters, in Dee Ann's opinion,
was the important role played
by legislative lobbyists. She
learned that this very knowl
edgeable grpup of workers helps
the legtelattf r a great deal jm
bad thost who lobby for
AFL-CTO, the Associations of
Oregon Industry, the trucking
industry, the Portland Central
Electric Co., and the Portland
Chamber of Commerce, pointed
out.

When you can't locate it or get it done in Hepp
ner, these Pendleton Business and Professional
Firms will be happy to serve you.
There's more to Oregon than you
may know. That's what makes it a
wonderful place to revive a weekend or
put pizazz in a ciose-to-home vacation. But
while you'll find places named "Oregon"
in four 6ther states, there's nothing like
the real thing. To prove it, we've packed
hundreds of special noteworthy sights
into a tour guide that invites you to See
Surprising Oregon! A big where-to-go
package that includes the most
comprehensive map of recreational
facilities ever printed. It's yours just for
sending in the coupon. .
In case you're wondering why we're so
anxious to share our discoveries with
you, it's quite simple. First of all, travel is
good business for all of us, and that
includes Pacific Northwest Bell. That's
one reason why we're shameless boosters
of Oregon. Another one is that this is
home for us, too. And since we spend our
corporate life here, we'd like to do
everything we can to help generate a
better appreciation of this state's
heritages and resources. We can think of
no better way to insure that they will be
enhanced and protected. '
While you travel in Oregon, don't
forget to dial ahead for reservations. And
when you get there, let your fingers do
the walking through the Yellow Pages for
just about any service you need.
