Engagement
Mr. and Mrs. Roger Campbell
of Lexington announce the en
gagement of their daughter,
Nancy Ann to LeRoy Nash, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Zaklan of
Pendleton.
No wedding date has been set
Miss Campbell has graduated
from Pendleton School of Beau
ty and will take her State
Boards in March. Mr. Nash has
just completed his military obligation.
A first year member of the
FFA is called a "Greenhand."
Heppner Women Plan
World Day of Prayer
Women representing eleven
churches of Heppner, Lexington
and lone met Friday to plan
for a united World Day of Pray
er at the home of Mrs. Charles
Heard. The service with the
theme "New Life Awaits" will
be held March 5 at All Saints'
Episcopal Church.
On this day church women in
25,000 communities in the USA
will unite their prayers with
women in 155 countries on six
continents. The service Is based
on one prepared by a group of
Caribbean women for internat
ional use. The Prayer Intentions
have been prepared by Mrs. Pil
ar Belloslllo who lives in Ma
drid, Spain, and Is president of
the World Union of catholic
Women's Organizations.
Participating in the service
will be women from the United
Methodist, All Saints' Episcopal,
Assembly of God, Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,
Seventh-day Adventlst, Hope
Lutheran, Valby Lutheran, First
Christian Church Heppner and
Church of Christ at Lexington,
St. Patrick's Catholic Uiurcn, ai.
William's Catholic Church and
the lone United Church or
Christ.
National FFA Week is sched
uled in February to nonor

Doreen Flack distributed the
programs and Marie Van Mar
ter was in charge of the guest
book.
Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen was in
stalled as mother advisor. Board
members installed were Mr. and
Mrs. Roy W. Lindstrom, Mrs.
James Barnett, Mrs. Rudy Berg
strom, Lewis Halvorsen and Mrs.
Herb Ekstrom, Jr. .

did was to get her dogs out of
the house and into the car?

Engagement
Mrs. Nona Sowell announces
the engagement of her daugh
ter, Marsha Ann, to Steven
Matthewson of Forest Grove, son
of Cmdr. and Mrs. F. F. Matth
ewson (USNRet.) of Grass Val
ley, Calif. Marsha is a senior at
Pacific University in Forest
Grove and will graduate this
spring. Mr. Matthewson, a 1970
graduate of Pacific, is awaiting
appointment to Naval Flight Of
ficer Candidate School in Pen-
sacola, Fla. No date for the wed
ding has been set.
Couples Attend
Sweetheart's Dinner
Thirteen couples attended the
Mother's Club Sweetheart Din
ner the evening of Feb. 6. The
dinner has become an annual
event with the Mother's Club
members and their husbands.
This year, the couples dined
at Thel's Cafe in lone. The eve
ning's menu Included steak,
tossed salad, baked potatoes and
hot rolls.
Dessert consisting of a lovely
Valentine cake, was served at
the Heppner Christian Church
with Peggy Johnson acting as
hostess. Games concluded the
enjoyable evening.
The next Mother's Club meet
ing will be March 1 at the home
of Ginger Keithley with Pat
Jensen as co-hostess. The
monthly program will be a Plant
Exchange, Hobby and Craft.

Soroptimists Plan Valentine Party
"Involved in America's Fu
ture" is the theme for National
FFA Week, Feb. 20-27.
Last minute details of the an
nual Valentine party that the
Heppner Soroptlmist Club gives
at the Nursing Home were com
pleted at the business meeting
Feb. 4. Mrs. W. W. Weathojford,
chairman, said the party would
be between 2:30 and 4:30 he
tween dinner and the afternoon
church service. The Blue Bird
group sponsored by Soroptlmlst
will entertain with songs ana
distribute the gifts to 17 wom
en and five men.
Soroptlmists have voted to or
ganize a Youth Service Club at
the Junior High level. Plans
were made for a Good Food
Sale on March 12.
Initiation of new members
will be held on March 25 at the
home of Mrs. Gray with Mrs.
John Pfeiffer, membership chair
man, and the program commit
tee, Mrs. Phillip Doherty, chair
man, in charge of the planned
potluck and initiation.
Hair-Do Project
The continuing project of the
Heppner SoroptimLst Club of
shampooing and setting hair for
the women at the Nursing Home
lias a special unlift In spirits
for the women in the Nursing
Home ns well as for the Sorop
tlmlst members who are there.
This Saturday morning saw the
following team at work at the
Nursing Home: Mrs. Glenn
Smith, Mrs. Allen Hughes, Mrs.
Clayton Sweek and Mrs. Charles
Heard.

the celebration. Mr. and Mrs.
Dallas McDanlel and family of
Rhea Creek visited on Saturday
afternoon.
