The lone Junior High football
team met defeat at the hands
of Heppner on the lone field
Oct. 1 by a score of 14 to 8. In
the first quarter Aaron Klinger
made the first TO for lone with
Tom Gates making the conver
sion. Wade Padberg, Heppner,
came back with a TO but fail
ed to make the PAT. In the 2nd
quarter Heppner's Ray Curnutt
made the TD with Jerry Gentry
completing the conversion. The
rest of the game was a see saw
with both teams getting near
the goal lines but falling short
in the final attempt. Both teams
played a very good game of
fensively and defensively.

ing at the annual reception giv
en for the teachers nt the Hepp
ner Elementary School Monday
evening. Mrs. Hurley Sager was
general chairman. Mrs. Don
Johnson gave the welcome and
introduced Principal Al Martin
who introduced the teachers. He
noted the Improvements that
had been made in the building
and urged parents to view the
areas.

Merle Cantin
Hurt in Wreck
Merlin Cantin, local Pacific
Northwest Bell employee, was
severely injured Friday in a car
accident In the Juniper Can
yon area. The phone company
vehicle apparently went out of
control after crossing a badly
damaged cattle guard. It was
ctated that the car must have
turned over at least twice side
ways rolling along the bank.
Cab was crushed. Mr. Cantin
received a concussion and bad
neck and shoulder bruises. His
scalp was cut away from his
hairline to the base of his
skull so he pushed it back ov
er his head and held it on with
his shirt.
He realized he was hurt and
would need help so he walked
over two miles to a telephone
pole, tied his jacket on the,
pole to make a step and plug
ged in his phone. The operat
or called John Proudfoot who
brought the injured man to
Pioneer Memorial Hospital for
surgery. He has been reported
in good condition. His doctor
reported that Mr. Cantin must
have passed out a number of
times as he walked 4 miles to
the Proudfoot ranch. Mr. Can
tin is a World War II veter
an, having seflved on a B17.
Log Truck Wrecked
Tuesday afternoon an empty
logging truck driven by Ken
neth Lindsay was wrecked near
the Everett Harshman ranch on
Willow Creek. The driver said
he hit a slick place on a curve
and went off the road, truck
being severely damaged. Mr.
Lindsay remained overnight in
Pioneer Memorial Hospital for
observation and was released
yesterday morning. Truck is
owned by Norm Paulus Co.

tells that the Governor has ap
pointed Mrs. Dolores L. (Dee)
Gribble as Justice of the Peace
for District 6, Morrow County,
for a term from Oct. 1 until her
successor is selected and qual
ified. Mrs. Gribble has been Justice
of the Peace pro tern here since
last May and has been Clerk
of the Court since 1967.

County Clerk Sadie Parrish re
ported Tuesday that voter reg
istrations this fall are a bit un
der 1968. At that time there
were 1128 democrats, 1046 re
publicans and 41 others. This
year there are 1096 democrats
registered, 989 republicans and
48 others. Total in 1968 was 2213
and now there are 2133.
Mums for
Homecoming
Mum Corsages are being of
fered for sale by the Junior
Class of Heppner High School
for the Homecoming Game,
Oct. 23. The Mums will be gold
encased in blue ribbons for the
school colors.
The sale will be a first in
an attempt to establish a tra
dition of Homecoming spirit.
The public is asked to partic
ipate as the high school Is try
ing to involve the adults in
Homecoming activities. By

game, the display of support
will become evident
