journeyman machinist for Elec
tronics Snecialties. Thev are
looking forward to the hunting,
fishing and camping in this area.

returned recently from a months
vacation trip to the Eastern and

they attended an auction sale
of homemade quilts that sold
for $200 each. One special quilt
went for $700. The design was
a huge bird that nearly covered
the quilt and was pieced in

the hospital where she had a

ily. The Martins are collecting
and selling barb wire and insulators.
One shop in Texas caters to
ash trays decorated with var
ious makes of barb wire and
covered with heavy plastic. They
also sell men's white bone ties
with the center decorated with
one barb and covered with plas
tic. The demand for these ar
ticles exceed the supply.
Many at the Condon Air Base
will remember the Air Force boy
who left there on horseback ap
proximately 5 years ago, and
headed for his home in Nevada.
He led another horse loaded
with camp supplies and planned
to make the trip in 30 days..
His first camp was made In
the hills above Lonerock. Chad-
wick the pack horse left in the
night and retraced his way back

through the snow and sold him
to Homer. He then left most of
his luggage in the hills and
started on hU Journey with one
horse, and spent the nights at
farm homes along the way.

light again, and has lived here

several years. Last week 2 of

grandsons. Scott and Rick Mc
Daniels, decided to try the pio
neer way of life. They loaded
Chadwlck with a bed roil, water
Jugs, and lunch goods, walked
and led him to their cabin In
the mountains 7 miles from
llardman where they spent the
first night. Next morning they
headed for Lonerock over a new
route they figured out from a
forestry map. It was rough go
ing for It took them up a steep,
rocky canyon and they had to
half drag Chadwlck over some
of the difficult places. Instead
of coming out at Grandpa Davis'
ranch, they .landed at the
Campbell ranch instead. It was
a 15-mile walk and It took
them 74 hours to make the trip.
This week Ginger McDanlel
and Joan Chrtstman from Hard
man tried their luck pioneering
with Chadwlck. They travti.I
the road and ale their lunch at
Rock Creek and It took them 7
hours to make the 19 mile trip.
