daughter born July 12, weigh,

Gina Kay. Grandparents are Mr.
and Mrs. William Kessell of Sa
lem and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Reece
of Joseph.
DVBS Ends
The Dally Vacation Bible
School held their program last
Wednesday evening at the Kin
zua Community Church. Sixty
seven attended the icnlc on Fri
day. The Bible School was un
der the direction of Mrs. Mar
garet Iekert and had an aver
age dally attendance of 59. Mrs.
Wanlta Hubbell had charge ol
the opening and closing exercis
es with flannelgraphs and was
also In charge of the contest.
Other teachers were Mrs. Linda
Nyseth who taught the pre
schoolers, assisted by Darcl Ash
er and Nancy Benson. Other
teachers were Mrs. Alma Cory,
Mrs. Jack Smiley, Mrs. Hildred
Hlnes assisted by Wanda Smi
ley. Mrs. Molly Day and Mrs.
Rayetta Watts were In charge
of crafts and Mrs. Day was also
the Bible School pianist. Cook
ies and Kool-Aid were provided
dally by Mrs. Carol Dyer, Mrs,
Evelyn Luper, und Mrs. Sandy
Sarnent. The members or Mrs
Smiley s class won gifts as win
ners of the point contest.
Mr. and Mrs James Walker re
turned Friday from a two week's
vacation trip which they spent
at various points in Washing
ton.
Services (or Father and Son
Funeral services were held
last Thursday morning at the
Assembly of God Church in Fos
sil for John L. Vanderford and
his 14 year old son. Robert
(Jack) Vanderford, who were
drowned in the North Fork of
the John Day River on July 4.
The Vanderfords were in the
process of moving to a place on
the river from Fossil when the
accident occurred.
John L. Vaderford was born
Jan. 8, 1932 at Albuquerque
N. M., the son of Mr. and Mrs,
M. L. Vanderford. He moved to
Western Oregon in 1948 and to
Eastern Oregon in 1959. They
had lived both in Kinzua and
Fossil. He is survived by his
wife Edna and three sons, John,
Melvin, and Eddie; his parents
of St. Helens, and four sisters.

Gronewald will be remembered
as Jean Hays. A niece of the
Thompsons she made her home
with them for a number of years
and graduated from Heppner
High school.

They have been In Germany
nearly 3 years. Sgt. Price is on
a 45 day leave from the Air
Force, and hopes to locate a
home for his family In the Her
miston area before returning.
His next tour of duty will be In
Thailand.
Mrs. Price is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sanders and
are visiting here presently. Her
sister and family, Mr. and Mrs,
Carl Russell of Ontario, also vis
ited Saturday to Monday.
Makes Salmon Catch
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Snyder and
Mr. and Mrs. Mike Snyder and
small daughter visited at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Chap
pell at RloDell, Calif. They all
went boating on the ocean. The
men went deep sea fishing,
catching several salmon, out
from Eureka.

Mrs. Dave Graybtal, was mar
ried to Cecil Maddox of San
Jose, Calif., at the Dave Gray-
beal homo on June 21. The Rev.
George Hash of Hermiston per
