Mitchell were present. Mr. Har
mon explained the uses of the
Christmas Seal funds. 1. To
eradicate TB. 2. To control res
piratory diseases. 3. To got peo
ple to quit smoking. 4. To pro
mote air conservation. 5. To pro
mote education in schools. Mr.
Harmon also gave a very en
lightening talk on Emphysema
and showed a lung taken from
a patient who had died from
Emphysema and compared it
with a health lung. The goals
for detecting Emphysema are as;
follows: A. Education; B. Early
detection; C. C.ise finding; D.J

Council Works on Park Project

About Frank
Frank Lovgren likes his sub
marine duty in the Navy. He
has just completed Submarine
school at Groton,1 Conn., where
he learned the basic elements of
what makes up a submarine and
the basic operations. He feels
lucky to have stayed in his class
which started with 42 and end
ed with 28. He received a spe
cial plaque for placing 3rd in
his class scholastically.
After his leave, he reports to
San Diego and will eo out on
ud tne USS Salmon. He will
spend 8 months doing small
navigational duties under a
Chief Quarter Master. To become
qualified as a "Dolphus" he
must know all the systems of a
submarine.
Following this tour of duty he
will attend two years of Nuclear
School. He will be in the Navy
six years under the Nuclear program.

A FIRST FOR THE STABKS
When Mr, and Mrs. Rick John
ston of Milwaukie had their first
child on June 1. Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Starks of Heppner had
their first grandchild! The baby
has been named Jacque Ann
and she weighed 7 lb. even. The

as Jackie.

Incidentally, the Starks can

birthday. She was born on their
24th wedding anniversary. Mr.
