filled for the Red Cross and gift
boxes mailed to 3 Camp 5 ser
vice men, Kenneth Norrls, Duane
and Monty Judd. There will be
a Christmas card party Dec. 6
and gift exchange. Committees
for the party: decoration, Terry
Todd, Rose Hardwick, Donna
Reece, Carol Thomas. Clean up
Betty Murdock, Carol Norrls,
Dolores Wimer, Carol Thomas,
Donna Reece and Llla Kessell.

who published the Heppnerf
Gazette-Times for many years
have sold their newspaper at
Tillamook.
Mr. and Mrs. Penland will
move soon to Hermiston where
Bob is to be manager of the
Hermiston Herald.

Alex John Hunt
Dies at Home
Alex Jchn Hunt, age 78 years.
passed away at his home Sun
day, November 9.
He was a life time resident of
the Heppner-Lexlngton area and
a retired rancher. He was born
March 22, 1891, on a ranch near
Heppner, son of Arthur Hunt and
Etta Wren, pioneer Morrow coun
ty ranchers. He was united In
marriage to Ottilee Rausch in
Heppner, on April 6, 1946. He
was a member of the Hope Luth
eran church, and Lexington
Lodge of IOOF.
Besides his wife, Ottilee, he
is survived by four sons; Edward
and Elwood, Lexington; Alfred
Wilke, Chicago; George Her
mann, The Dalles; one daughter,
Lilian bmitn, Hermiston; one
sister Elva Ruhl, Lexington; two
brothers, Lester, Hermiston and
Elmer, The Dalles; fifteen grand
children and two great grand
children, also numerous nieces
and nephews.
Services were held November
11 at the Hope Lutheran church
in Heppner with the Rev. Ru
dolph Mensch officiating. Con
eluding services were held at
Lexington cemetery with Sween
ey Mortuary in charge of ar
rangements.
Contributions may be made
to the Memorial Fund in care
of the Hope Lutheran Church

Bank Reports Growth
In response to the U. S. Comp
troller of Currency's quarterly
statement of condition call, First
National Bank of Oregon has
released third quarter figures on
deposits, loans and total resour
ces.
President Ralph J. Voss an
nounced deposits of $1.572.632,.
005 and loans of $1,135,027,590
were listed on the Oct. 21 call
date. These figures represent a
substantial growth over the $1,
552,930,359 In deposits and $944.
225,959 In loans recorded on the
previous third-quarter call on
Oct. 30. 19G3.
Total resources at the state's
largest bank were $1,915,782,400,
up from $1,864,478,077 at a com
parable time last year.
The Heppner branch reported
deposits of S6.338.236 and loans
oi $7,237,312 as of Oct 21, ac
cording to Harley Sager man
ager. Comparable totals for the
branch a year ago were $6,127,
654 in deposits and $6,526,225 in
loans.
