Discussed by Leaders
At Council Workshop
Spoclal emphasis on leader
ship and the overall role of ex
tension was the theme of the
Extension Leadership Workshop
neui in Heppner last Wednes
day, September 24.
Representatives from all Mor
row county Extension Units
were present. County advisory
eommittee chairman, Dorrls
Graves, acted as mistress of
ceremony for the occasion.
Special guests who participat
ed in the training were Lorene
Whittaker. past president of the
urejjon Homemakers Council,
mot kock; Jeanne Mecy, Uls
trict VII Representative to the
Oregon Homcmaker's Council,
Milton-Freewater; Molly Saul,
Area Extension Agent in Home
Kconomlcs; Naomi Davis, Area
4-H Home Economics Agent:
and Birdine Tullis, Morrow
County Extension Aide.
"Getting to Know Extension
County-State-National and In
ternational" was presented by
Mrs. wnittaker. Mrs. Megy spoke
on the role of the county and
district officers. Dorris Graves
gave training on the duties and
responsibilities of Unit Chair
man, ACWW chairman and
safety chariman. Jean Nelson,
secretary of the county advisory
committee, explained the role of
the secretary in the unit. Faye
Ferguson gave a report on the
responsibilities of the treasurer,
Other committee chairmen from
the advisory committee who
reported on activities were Bar
bara Witherrite, health, and
Ginger Keithley, careers and
youth.
An interesting review of the
Morrow-Umatilla county pro
gram development committee
plans and activities was given
by Mrs. Saul. Explanation of
the role of Extension Units In
the 4-H program, and a report
on 4-H Activities in Morrow
county was given by Naomi Da
vis and Birdine Tullis.
A salad potluck luncheon was
served by the County Home Ex
tension Advisory committee,
nostesses ror the event.
On the hostess committee
were Dorris Graves, Jean Nelson,
Bea Lucianl, Faye Ferguson,
Ginger Keithley, Phoebe Hayes,
ana Barbara witherrite.

Monday Deadline Set
For Sewing Workshop
October 6 Is the deadline to
enroll in the "Sewing Pants for
Women" workshops to be con
ducted this fall by the Oregon
atate university Extension Ser
vice In Morrow and Umatilla
counties. Those who wish to par
ticipate may notify the County
Extension offices In Pendleton,
Hormlston. Milton-Freewater. or
Heppner. They may also write
or telephone Molly Saul or
Naomi Davis, P. O. Box 1107,
Pendleton, 276-7111. extension
61. It is planned that workshops
will be offered in Ukiah. Pilot
kock. Pendleton, Heppner, Her
miston, and Milton-Freewater.
Area workshops will com
mence In October and should be
completed before Thanksgiving.
Each participant will attend
five workshop sessions, and will
construct a pair of woven wool
slacks. There is no charge to
enroll. The only cost to partici
pants is for the pattern, fabric,
and findings used to make her
slacks.
Workshops will be davtime
meetings, but it is possible an
evening workshop will be sched
uled in Pendleton.

At Fall Flower Show
One of the first major events
to celebrate the 20th anniver
sary of the lone Garden club
was the 17th Annual Fall Flow
er Show, presented at the lone
school cafetorium on Sunday,
September 21. between 2:00 and
5:00 p.m.
Out-of-town Judges who com
pared the show with others they
had observed, were impressed
by its high Quality and reported
the show as "outstanding".
A total of 248 entries were re
corded, with 33 exhibitors par.
ticipating; 196 horticulture spec,
imens and 52 arrangements
Three juniors exhibited. Includ
ing Frank Engelman, Marilyn
warren ana Jimmy jepsen.
Approximately 100 viewed the
show, coming from Pilot Rock,
John Day, Stanfield, Heppner,
Lexington and surrounding ar
eas.
Top award of the rotating
pewter compote, given for the
most blue ribbons in the show.

Mrs. Robert Hosklns. director
of District 14 which covers Uma
tilla, Morrow, Gilliam and
Wheeler counties, attended a
state wool workshop in Portland
last week. She reports that new
to the wool competition is the
addition of pants for the sub-deb
group and pant suits for the
junior and senior groups.

Juniors, ages 14 to 16, and sen
iors, ages 17 to 21, may also
make a dress, suit (with jacket
or cape), coat or full length

Special features of the show
included an outstanding display
of 75 named varieties of dahlias,
grown by Bill Rawlins. Also, a
special chrysanthemum exhibit
with named varieties from the !
gardens of Mrs. Martin, Mrs.
Rietmann, Mrs. Edith Nichoson,
Mrs. Huber and Mrs. Mary Lun
dell. Much interest was shown
in the display of historical I
scrapbooks and yearbooks of
teh club, reviewing the 20 years
of the club's existence.

Grand Lodge Guests
Review and discussion of the
Eastern Oregon Friendship Tour
was Drought before the meeting
of Sans Souci Rebekah Lodge No.
33 on Friday, September 19. Mrs.
Opal Cook, noble grand, and
several members reported on
entertaining Grand Lodge offi
cers and Rebekah Assembly per
sonnel here on the first over
night stop of the chartered bus.
Under correspondence, inter
esting letters were read, one
from a former member, Margar
et Thomas, who makes her
j home in Walla Walla, Wash.,
and another from Lulu Johnson
of Honolulu. The names of Mrs.
Johnson's parents are on the
Sans Souci charter.

esses for the social hour follow
ing lodge. This carried through
the birthday theme for those
having birthdays during the
past three months. Lighted can

the honorees, who included Mrs.
