Girls Make Favorable
Showing at Olympics
Three Heppner Elementary
school girls entered competition
in the Oregon Junior Olympic
track meet at Woodrow Wilson
High school in Portland on Sat
urday, June 7. They were among
53 girls In the 1213 year age
group.
Anita Davidson, who had won
first in the 12-in. Softball throw
at the district meet in Arling
ton, placed 2nd in the state,
with a throw of 116 ft., 11 In
Susan Healy competed in both
high lump and 50-yard dash,
making a good showing with a
lump of 4'1". and a run of 6.9.
Kathleen Bartlett. lirst place
winner in the district 50-yard
dash, finished in a good time
of 6.7, after placing first in the
district meet.

Electric Storms
Cause of Outages
The onslaught of electrical
storms through the week-end
kept crews of Columbia Basin
Electric Cooperative on the go,
Harley Young, manager, said.
Most of the trouble was en
countered during Saturd a y
night's storm when several lo
calized outages occurred from
transformers being burned out.
Transformer at the Gene Majes-
ke place was knocked out by
lightning and this disrupted
service to his place and to some
of his neighbors.
A similar outage occurred at
the Dave Childs place near Ar
lington. Two lightning strikes cut elec
trical power lines, one being on
the Willow Creek line ana an
other one north of Condon. The
latter interrupted service to Olex
and lower Rhea Creek for a
time.
Heppner had ir outages.
Lights blinked occasionally from
over-voltage caused by the
lightning, Young said. Men of
the cooperative worked through
the night in the hazardous com
bination of heavy rain and
lightning to keep the area In
service.
