    Church Has Farewell
Reception for Dixons
Following the farewell sermon
to the United Methodist congre
cation by the Itev. Melvln Dix
on on Sunday. June 1, Rev. and
Mrs. Dixon were honored at a
morning reception hour In the
church basement rooms. Rev.
Dixon Is attending the annual
church conference In Salem this
week and expects to receive an
appointment to a church In the
Eugene area for the coming
year. They have served the
Heppner church for the past six
years.
In behalf of the church mem
bership, Gene Pierce presented
a gift of appreciation to the
couple, a covered dish In their
chosen china, filled with money
gifts to be used in purchasing
the rest of the set.
A large white and yellow dec
orated sheet cake was served
by Mrs. James Hllderbrand, and
punch was poured by Mrs. Her
man Green. Other members of
the WSCS assisted with the ar
raneements. Guest speaker at the Sunday
morning service at 10:00 a.m.
June 8 will be Rev. Fletcher
Forster of Pendleton, and the
permanent pastor and family
will reside here after June 12.

Honors Vern Keithley
Mrs. Vern Keithley was host
ess on Saturday evening, May 23,
for a surprise party honoring her
husband, Vern, on his birthday.
Three tables of pinochle were
In play throughout the evening,
with high score awarded to For
rest Burkenblne. low to Elwayne
Bergs trom and pinochle to Mrs.
Lyle Jensen.
Other guests included Mr. and
Mrs. Ladd Dick. Mr. and Mrs.
Everett Keithley, Mrs. Bergs
trom, Lyle Jensen, Mrs. Burken
blne, and the hosts.
Refreshments of strawberry
short cake, punch and coffee
were served at the close of the
evening.
Camp Fire Girls Hold
Ceremonial Program
Camp Fire Girls under the
direction of their leader, Mrs.
Joe Bartlett, had their annual
Camp Fire Ceremonial program
at the First Christian church on
Monday evening, May 26.
Girls received their Camp Fire
honor beads, which they earned
doing required projects, and par
ticipated in lighting the cand
les of Wo-He-Lo and saying the
Camp Fire Creed.
Blue Bird certificates were
awarded to Gail Simkins and
Rebecca Stillman, and a Trail
Seeker rank award was present
ed to Debbie Papineau, who al
so received a three year mem
bership award. Robinai Riddle
received a five year member
ship award and Kathleen Bart
lett was presented with a seven
year award.
The girls presented a program
of entertainment for their par
ents and friends, with a song
presented bv Lisa Burkenbine
and Tina Schmidt; a puppet
show provided by Ruth Ann
Keithley and Kathy Schwarzin
and a play written and produc
ed by Debbie Papineau, with
parts played by Shannon Walk
er, Lisa Collins, Kathy Marshall,
Muriel Turner, Roblhal Riddle,
Gail and Terrl Simkins and
Juanita Wilson.

Lincecums Announce
Daughter's Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Camp
bell Lincecum. of Lakeview, are
announcing the forthcoming
marriage of their daughter,
Terry Diane, to Mr. Duane Ira
Griffith of John Day.
The couple will exchange
their marriage vows on Friday,
June 13, at 8:00 p.m., at the
First Presbyterian church in
Lakeview.
Following their wedding trip,
the couple will make their home
in John Day, where the groom is
associated with a surveying
firm.
Overnight guests last Thurs
day evening at the home of Rev.
and Mrs. Robert Wolfe were Mr.
and Mrs. Arthur Figgins and
family of Bend. The Wolfes al
so entertained as dinner guests
Sunday afternoon, the Vic Fus
selman family, formerly of
Heppner. They are now John
Day residents.

Hayride-VViener Roast
Treat tor blue Birds
Members of the third grade
Blue Birds enjoyed a hayrlde to
the Jerry Dougherty ranch on
Friday evening, May 23, where
they had a wiener roast and an
evening of Kmes.
Accompanying the girls were
Mr. and Mrs. Vern Viall and
Curtis and Leslie, Mrs. Wes
Marlatt and Rosanna, Mrs. Har
ry Green and Ella Mae, and
Alone Boyajian and the hosts.
Girls attending were Cindy

Mary Speckhart Joins
Oregon Dairy Council
Staff After July 1
Mary Speckhart. Umatilla and
Morrow Area Extension Agent
for 4 11 and Youth, has resign
ed to accept a position with
the Oregon Dairy Council, It was
announced last week. Her resig
nation Is effective July 1, ac
cording to Fred Hagelstein, Um
atilla County Extension Staff
chairman.
Miss Speckhart has been em
ployed by the Oregon State Un
iversity Extension Service In
Umatilla county since July, 19W5.
In 19G8, her work was expand
ed to Include Morrow county.
Her major responsibilities have
included the 4 H Home Econ
omics program and working with
older 4 -Hers in the Junior Lead
er and Empire Builders program.
In her new position with the
Oregon Dairy Council, starting
August 1, Miss Speckhart will
be doing educational and pro
motional work with the dairy

Industry. She will be working
out of the Council's Portland
office.
Hagelstein expects a replace
ment for the position to be an
nounced in the near future. He
said Miss Speckhart has been
highly effective in her work with
4-H and youth programs In Um
atilla and Morrow counties, and
expressed regrets at her leaving.
Mr. and Mrs. Deem Robinson
and daughter of La Grande vis
ited here over the past week
end with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Creston Robinson and with
his grandmother, Mrs. Lena Kel
ly. Also visiting with Mrs. Kel
ly was another grandson and
wife, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kellv.
Jr. of Pendleton, who were in
Heppner over the week-end to
particioate with the rodeo team
from BMCC In the college rodeo.
