Play is Big Hit On Variety Show
IONE The PTA "Spring Var
lety" show held in the lone High
school cafetorium on April 11
was a great success. The local
critics enjoyed every moment of
the various performances, and
stated those not attending miss
ed an unusual evening.
The one-act play of "Feudin'
Mountain Boys" dramatized a
story about Freddie Frump and
his family. Freddie, suffering
from a malady common among
young men of his age being in
love, had as the object of his
affection, Effie Katzfelter, who,
unfortunately, found no glamour
in the boys of today. She long
ed for the old days when duel
ing was the code of the hills
and young men were romantic
ally daring.
After Freddie decides to man
ufacture a pseudo feud to im
press Effie, the whole affair
gets out of hand and his fam
ily is involved in a real feud
with countless complications.
Effie discovered that feuding is
not as romantic as she had lm
agined and Freddie is faced
with the necessity of halting
the feud he started.
Cast of characters included
Freddie Frump Bill Flechtner;
Grandma Frump Mary Ann
Palmer; Paw Frump Dennis
McKay; Maw Frump Dot Hal
vorsen; Effie Katzfelter Linda
McKay; Cora Mae Frump Bar-

The 4-H Community Club has
done its part in contributing to
the beauty of the area, by hav
ing a Plant Sale. Since this is
the time of year to thin peren
nial plants and shrubs, many
friends and neighbors donated
to the sale. These were sold for
a fraction of their true value,
with the proceeds going into the
club treasury. Shrubs that have
proven that they grow well in
this climate, such as forsythia,
Oregon grape, flowering quince,
spirea, buckhorn sumac, flower
ing almond and many others,
were given. Also many prized
house plants and annuals, as
well as rhubarb, strawberry
plants and raspberry bushes
were donated and sold.
Mrs. Marge Shade was chair
man of the Plant Sale. Other
leaders, who each had a crew
of 4-H members to assist them,
were Mrs. Ival Sullivan, Mrs.
Don Leighton, Mrs. John Brandt,
Mrs. Chester Wilson, Mrs. Pete
Richards, Mrs. Dean Acock, and
Mrs. Duane Kerlin.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee LeBlanc
were kind enough to take the
plants that were left over and
all were sold at their Texaco
station.
A good number of brooms and
light bulbs were sold also, by
house-to-house 4-H salesmen.
The profit from these was do
nated to the 4-H club by the
Lion's Club. Tomato, sweet pep
per, pansy, petunia, and chrys
anthemum plants were bought
from the Pendleton Grain Grow
ers at cost and were among the
first to be sold at a profit.
