CARD OF THANKS
A card of thanks and apprec
iation to all the good people who
wrote so many nice letters ex
pressing regrets for my acci
dent (on January 8, 19(39) and
wishing me a speedy recovery.
These letters touched me deeply
and were a big factor in lessen
ing my pain, which was very
severe and continuous. I have
never seen generosity of such
quality or such rare kindness
as was brought out so beauti
fully in all these letters. Some
of the letters were from former
patients I had not seen nor
heard from for more than 25
years and it was wonderful to
know they were still living and
well. One big surprise was a
letter from my dear friend, Judge
John F. Kilkenny, from Miami,
Fla., and among other things he
stated that although there was
no ice or snow there, it was
quite chilly.
Gratefully and sincerely,
Archie D. McMurdo, M. D.

CARD OF THANKS
I wish to extend a sincere
"thank you" to friends and rel

flowers, cards, gifts and other
kindnesses during my recent
stay in Good Samaritan hospital
in Portland. All were greatly ap
preciated. Mrs. Jeanne Lovgren

Vehicle Owners'
Address Changes
Require Notice
The Department of Motor Ve
hicles has a problem with peo
ple who fail to notify It of a
change of adress.
Vern L. Hill, director of the
department, today urged Oregon
drivers and car owners to com
ply with the law which requires
them to notifv in writing the
DMV within 30 days after the
change of address.
Compliance with the law, Hill
said, will help insure that own
ers and drivers are reminded to
renew their licenses as well as
help cut operating costs in the
licensing agency.
The Department, which must
be one of the post office's best
Oregon customers, mails approx
imately 80.000 passenger car re
newal reminders and about
40,000 driver license renewal re
minders each month.
About 1700 notices are return
ed each week which the post
office cannot deliver because
people nave moved and left no
forwarding address and have
not notified the department of
the move. Hill said the post of
fice department also forwards
about 7.000 notices a month.
These are to people who have
left no forwarding addresses
with the post office, but have
not chaneed their addresses on
DMV records, Hill said.
Failure to notify the depart
ment of a change of address is
a misdemeanor and is punish
able, upon conviction, by a fine
of not more than $500 or by
imprisonment for not more than
six months, or both.
The Department hopes more
people will comply voluntarily,
rather than run the risk of a
citation and fine.
