such meeting In Hermiston,
which was attended by Repre
sentative Al Ullman, an appeal
was made for assistance and
through his efforts, surplus
pumps belonging to the govern
ment were located and made
available to the district through
a grant.
An inlormatory meeting,
which was attended by about
80 people, was held two days
prior to the election, at which
time the program was explain
ed and cost breakdown given.
Questions posed by the group

Jones, who stressed the fact that
a great saving to the district
would be realized by accepting
the offer while these pumps are
available. The certainty that de
mands for assured water on old
lands will increase, and these,
coupled with pressures for de
veloping new lands, will dictate
that some type of project be
constructed soon, if not done
now.
Since the district has $120,000
of its own funds available for
use on the project, outside funds
in the amount of only $40,000
need be borrowed for the con
struction and initial operational
costs. Total cost of $150,000
would be charged against the
