Esjteelally exciting to Jody
was "the chase", which Includ
ed five days of fox hunting,
jumping over "all kinds of fen
ces" which separate the small
acreages of green farm areas and
countryside, so typical In Ire
land. The horses, quite different
from what Jody had been used
to riding, were half thorough
bred and half work -type horses,
much taller and larger than her
own. While on some sight-seeing
tours, .die visited the Limrick
Tracks and observed racing and
steeplechase events.
Jody (111 her traveling from
Portland to New York, then on
to Shannon, Ireland, by Jet
plane, leaving December 18, and
returning the same route Jan
uary 7. She hopes that some day
.'he will have another opportun
ity to repeat the trip.
Altar Society Plans
Public Card Party
Members of St. Patrick's Cath
olic Altar Society are preparing
for their annual public card
party and dessert, which Is
scheduled to be held Monday
evening, January 27, 8 p.m., at
the Catholic parish hall.
Chairmen of this year's event
nre Mrs. Bill Kenny and Mrs.
Randv Lott, assisted by Mrs.
Wilbur Worden.
Card plaving enthusiasts are
cordially invited to attend the
card party, which will feature
bridge and pinochle, and des
sert, served prior to the begin
ning of play.
Admission of $1 per person
will be charged.

Holiday Vacation
Enjoyed in Mexico
Mr. and Mrs. Alan Martin and
family returned last week from
a holiday trip to Mazatlan, Mcx.,
where they enjoyed a 2'n-weel
vacation while visiting his mo
ther, Mrs. C. R. Dlmm, and his
grandmother, Mrs. Laura Barnes.
Mazatlan, located about half
way down the Western const of
Mexico, Is a city of over 40,000
residents. Temperatures In this
area ranged from 70 80 degrees
while they were there and the
family enjoyed swimming In the
Pacific Ocean on Christmas Day.
Mexicans, who hold many fire
works displays throughout the
holidays, do not actually cele
brate cntll the 12th day after
Christmas, Mrs. Martin comment-ed,

Club Makes Donation
To Memorial Fund
Committee reports and club
projects for the month of De
cember were reviewed at the
regular business meeting of the
Soroptimist club at its luncheon
meeting Thursday, January 2,
with Mrs. Elaine George presid
ing. A $25 contribution was voted
to the Bill Farra Memorial Fund,
to be added to other donations
for purchase of fire fighting
equipment in his memory. Fol
lowing a report by Mrs. Bill Col
lins, ways and means chairman,
brief discussion was held on
whether the club should apply
for handling the sale of gate
tickets at the Morrow County
Rodeo next summer. Decision
will be reached following fur
ther investigation of the proj
ect. At the luncheon meeting on
January 9, program speaker was
Peggy Taylor, Heppner High
rchool freshman, recipient of the
club's elementary camp schol
arship for last summer. She told
of her experiences while attend
ing Camp Mivadon, Seventh
day Adventist church camp,
near Sandpoint, Idaho, for one
week.
O'her luncheon guests were
two senior girls at Heppner High
school. Debbie Bennett and Sue
EKen Greenup. Also Mrs. Clar
ence Barton of Portland, who
was visiting at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Emile Groshens, was
a guest of the day.

New Worthy Advisor
For Rainbow Girls

In her Installation as new wor
thy advisor of Ruth Assembly
No. 50, International Order of
Rainbow for Girls. Seated with
her in formal ceremonies Sun
day afternoon, January 12, were
19 other elected and appointed
officers.
For her installation, the new
worthy advisor, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Arnold Melby of Hepp
ner, chose gold and white as
her colors, and "Somewhere
Over the Rainbow" as her
theme. She greeted her fellow
members and guests in a floor
length gown of gold satin, with
a winter corsage of gold, red
and white flowers.
Miss Melbv was escorted to
the altar by her sister, Miss
Kathy Melby, a past worthy ad
visor of the assembly. Crowning
ceremonies were performed by
Master Counselor Troy McGow
an and seven other members of
Blue Mountain Chapter, Order
of the DeMolay for Boys, of
Hermiston. They were accompa
nied by their dad advisor, Boyd
Thomas, Sr.
Presiding over installing cere
monies were Teresa Harshman,
immediate past worthy advisor,
installing officer; Kathy Melby,
marshal; Lynda Orwick, chap
lain; Sara Miller, musician, and
Debbie Warren of the lone As
sembly, recorder.

special gift. Addendums honor- j
ed both Teresa and Susan, with
members participating in a hu- I
morous drill, led by Cindy Har- j
sin, "Up in the East". j
Serving tab'e in the reception
room was centered with a large i
white cake, trimmed in gold. It i
featured a multi-colored rainbow ,
with the traditional not of gold,
and inscribed in gold with the
chosen theme. Tapers and oth- j
