adults to learn this life saving
technique. She will take a life
size doll to each unit. In order
that each member may practice
the method. Mrs. George has
been certified by the American
Red Cross to teach tills Import
a nt lesson.
Mrs. Saul will explain and
show examples of the many
changes taking place In the
food packaging Industry. She
will explain how packages ben
efit consumers, state and feder
al packaging regulations, com
parison of various packaging
costs and future trends in food
packaging. She will also explain
the part the average homemak
er or consumer may play In In
fluencing manufacturers.

and place of unit meetings may
be secured by calling the Coun
ty Extension offices in Pendle
ton, Hermiston, Milton-Freewa-ter,
or Heppner. All homemak
ers are Invited to attend the unit
in her locality in Rhea Creek,
January 8; in Pine City, Janu
ary 15, and in Heppner, Janu

ton, sent a note of erecting to
the members. Several Illnesses
were reported. Including Mrs.
Orian Wrluht. lodce secretary;
also Mrs. Nora Rasmus and Mrs.
Hannah Anderson, who weie
hospitalized.
Members voted that a contri
bution be made to the United
Methodist church toward a
memorial for Bill Farra.
Discussion was held on plans
for the annual joint Installa
tion of officers, on Saturday,
January 11. Mrs. Mary Bailey
was appointed chairman for the
dinner which will precede the
installation ceremonies. As is
traditional. Willow IOOF Lodge
No. 66 will co-host the dinner
and installation. Mrs. Larry
Cook will be Installed as the
newly elected noble grand of
Sans" Soucl, and Jack Sumner
will be installed noble grand of
Willow Lodge.
Following the meeting, a
smorgasbord of sweet treats pro
vided the refreshments, with
Mrs. Retha Adkins, vice-grand
elect of Sans Souci, serving cof
fee. Joining in for the social
hour were Pete McMurtry and
Bob Lowe. .
Many gaily wrapped Christ
mas gifts were exchanged, caus
ing merriment and entertain
ment. Next regeular meeting will be
on January 3. Unique small cal
endars, with circled meeting
dates, given to members by No
ble Grand -elect Opal Cook, will
be reminders of coming meet
ings. Reggie Pascal traveled to the
home of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. I. H. Pascal, Fruitland,
Wash., to spend Christmas Eve
and Christmas Day with them.

rived Sunday, December 22,
from their home in Albany, to
attend the fourth birthday cele
bration of their niece, Tara, at
the home of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Mahoney. The
Smiths visited throughout the
week at the home of her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Ma
honey and on Christmas Day the
families gathered at the Robert
Mahoney home for dinner.

To Thomas E. Laird
The engagement of Miss Sue
Evelyn Griffith to Thomas Eu
gene Laird, both of Heppner, is
announced by her mother, Mrs.
Eva Griffith.
The groom-elect is the son of
Mrs. Earl LaBree of Yakima,
Wash., and the late Harold A.
Laird. He was a graduate of
Heppner High school with the
class of 1965.
A definite wedding date has
not been announced.

Ron Haguewood presented some
of the history of Germany and
its Christmas customs. Several
clocks and other interesting ar
ticles made in Germany were
on display. A luncheon of var
ied authentic dishes was enjoy
ed at noon.
The afternoon business meet
ing was called to order by Mrs.
Albert Wright, chairman. Mrs.
Birdine Tullis, county extension
aide, was a guest and explain
ed to the group her duties and
reported on coming workshops
which will be available. A let
ter was read from W. G. Nibler,
extension district supervisor,
concerning Morrow county prob
lems in securing a county agent.
We were advised to write to our
state representative, Irvln Mann.
Reports were heard from Mrs.
Mildred Wright on her "Sewing
With Knits" training, and from
Mrs. Dorris Graves, county com
mittee member, on their recent
meeting. Gifts were exchang
ed between those attending.
Announcement was made of
the next meeting on January 8,
at 10:30 a.m., with potluck
luncheon at noon. Interested
persons are urged to attend and
get acquainted with Mrs. Molly
Saul, Umatilla county extension
agent, who will present the les
son, "The Growing World of
Packaging."
