Grange met on Sunday, riovem
ber 10, with a very busy after
noon schedule. A pollack din
ner was served at niton with
the Women'! Activity club fur
nishing the turkey and dress
ing. hollowing the dinner an
interesting program was pre
sented under the direction of
Mrs, Ola ituggles, lecturer.
Musical selections were pre
sented bv Mr. and Mrs. Hubert
Wilson of Heppner, and Mrs
Kenneth Smouse and Mrs. Na
than Thorpe. Donna Pointer,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don
Pointer, cave her talk on soil
and water conservation. Mr. and
Mrs. Edmond Gouty showed
their rock collection and gave a
descriptive talk on these. As
this was the combined Booster
meeting with church service pro
gram and the regular meeting,
there were about 60 guests pres
ent for the afternoon, among
them visitors from Willows and
Greenfield Granges. Among vis
iting ministers were Rev. Ray
mond Beard, Rev. and Mrs. F.
VV. Lueilde, and baby, Rev. and
Mrs. Earl Soward, Rev. and Mrs
Robert Wolf and family, and
Rev. and Mrs. O. D. Harris.
After the program a get
acquainted hour was enjoyed,
after which the regular meet
ing of the Grange was held.
At this time there was an elec
tion of the following officers:
Master, Kenneth Smouse; over-
seerer, Alfred Nelson, Jr.; secre
tary. Jean Nelson; treasurer,
Delpha Jones; lecturer, Mildred
Davidson; chaplain, Marie Stea
gall; steward, Edward Hunt;
gatekeeper, Cecil Jones; assist
ant steward, Joe Yocom; lady
assistant steward. Hilda Yocom;
Pomona, Nora Turner; Ceres,
Frances Smouse; Flora, June
Christopherson, and executive
committee, Edward Hunt, Eu
gene Mateske, and Norman Nel
son. Also, the increase In dues
was discussed. Due to the raise
in so many things. It costs more
to run the Grange, and follow
ing discussion at the last two
meetings it was decided to raise
dues to $7.50 a year per member.
Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Thorpe
were present trom Hermision.
Thorpe is the Morrow county
deputy for the Granges.

Announcement was made at
the meeting of the city council
last Tuesday night that the Ore
gon Insurance Rating Bureau
had given the city a fire Insur
ance rating of 7. which will
mean a considerable reduction
in fire insurance rates for residents.
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hoffman
have received word of the birth
of a grandson, born to their son
and daughter-in-law, Spec'5 and
Mrs. Jim Hoffman. October 25,
in Bad Kreuznach, Germany.
The new baby weighed 4 lb., '6
oz., and has been named Tim
othy James. Maternal grandpar
ents are Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd
Franke of Irrigon. Great-grand
parents are Vivian Hoffman of
Dufur and Frankie Cason of
Condon.
Mr. and Mrs. Vern Wilkle and
son David of Matlawa. Wash..
and Wllkle'g parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Fiovd Wilkle of Royal
Iowa, arrived Saturday to spend
the week end at the home of
Mrs. Vern Wilkle' uncle and
aunt, Mr. and Mrs. earl Gil

day for her home In Los An
geles, Calif., after visiting the
past three weeks at the home
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
George Sicard. and other rela
tives.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ball left
Saturday for Eugene to spend
the week-end visiting at the
home of Mrs. Ball's brother and
sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Barlow. They will also go to
Lincoln City to visit Ball's son
and daughter-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Albert Ball, and Mrs. Ball's
sister-in-law, Mrs. Crystal Bar
Barlow. Mrs. Frank Marlow ac
companied them and will visit
her brother-in-law and sister.

Ted Bloke, 63, Dies
In Portland Sunday
Ted Blake. 63. of Portland
died unexpectedly In that city
Sunday following an apparent
heart attack, according to In
formation rei-elved by his nlitv,
Mrs. Paul (Bethel) ileinrlch of
Heppner.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m.
Thursday (today) at the ilol
man Funeral Hume, 28th and
Hawthorne, Portland,
Mr. Blake had visited in Hepp
ner only two weeks ago and
was apparently in good health
at that time.
Among suvlvors are the widow
of Portland, the former Ella
Fell of Heppner; a daughter,
Mrs. Gar White of Portland;
two grandchildren; a brother,
Mearl, of Portland; sister-in-law,
Mrs. Snoda Blake of Heppner;
a cousin, Mrs. Eva Griffith of
Heppner; two nephews, Bill
Blake of Monmouth and Darrell
Blake of Condon; and the niece.
Mrs. Heinrich of Heppner.
Two brothers, Kenneth and
Ray Blake, preceded him In
death.

the society will be hostesses.
Mrs. Roy Ball, postmaster, and
Mrs. Gunnar Skoubo went to
Pendleton Friday to attend the
annual postal Christmas plan
ning meeting held at the post
office.
Mrs. John Olson and Harriett
Dickerhoff of San Diego, Calif.,
are here for a month's visit at
the home of their brother and
sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Emile Ash.

Held November 6
Lee Potter, former Heppner
resident, died Sunday, Novem-
here 3, at the Ponderosa Rest
Home in Klamath Falls follow
ing a lengthy illness. He was
71 years of age.
Survivors include one sister,
Mrs. Ted Miller, and one bro
ther. Linlev Potter, both of
Klamath Falls.
Potter was born November 30,
1896. to David and Anna Pot
ter, who preceded him in death
in 1914 and 1949 respectively.
He was an army veteran oi
World War II.
Following funeral services in
Klamath Falls, a graveside serv
ice was held in Heppner on
Wednesday, November 6, with
the Rev. Melvin Dixon officiat
ing. Sweeney Mortuary was in
charge of arrangements.

Father's Death Calls
Roods to Medford
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Rood re
turned Saturday, November 2,
from Butte Falls, Ore., where
thev were called by the sudden
death of Mrs. Rood's father, Ar
thur B. Meyers.
Mr. Meyers was an a via burn
er and spent much time hunt
ing prior to his death. He was
83 vears of age.
Funeral services were held
Friday. November 1. at Siski
you Memorial Park in Medford.
Mr. and Mrs. David Anderson
and two children from Albany
spent last week-end with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jamse
Bloodsworth and family.
