Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Berger re
turned home after an extensive
vacation trip. They visited
Doyle, Paradise, and Nevada, in
Northern California. With Mrs.
Berger's brother, Jack Hanes,
they also visited Port Costa
which was the world's largest
wheat shipping port in the late
1800's. Now it Is an interesting
place to visit for its antiquity.
The Btrgers traveled up the
Oregon coast, to Aberdeen,
Wash., where they visited their
son and family, Mr. and Mrs.
Ronald Berger, who were in the
nrnepss ot movine to Warm
I Beach, Wash. They also visited
their daughter, Judy, and Mrs.
Mrs. Leslie Smith is convales
cing at the Umatilla hospital
after major surgery.
Keith Gallo is visiting his
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy
Davis.
The kindergarten meeting was
combined with a shower for
Mrs. Billy Griffin and new born
son. Michael Andrew. Mrs.
Charles Rowland was hostess
for the shower.
Mrs. Burrel Cooley presided
at the kindergarten business
meeting. Members appointed to
the ways and means committee
were Mrs. Dick Adams, chair
man, Mrs. Eons Hawkins, Mrs.
Donald Keys, Mrs. Jerry Peck,
Mrs. Jerry Myers of Boardman
is secretary.
Christmas cards have been
sold for a number of years in
this area, to help provide ma
terial for the kindergarten. The
ways and means committee
was instructed to order cards to
be sold this year. A teacher will
be selected soon to teach the
class which will start in Febru
ary. Mrs. Cooley has been tak
ing a school census, and reports
there are 25 prospective students
for the kindergarten in North
Morrow county.
Pastor John Kenney and mem
bers of the Assembly of God
traveled to special meetings in
Walla Walla and Umatilla the
past week.

the home of Mr. and Mrs. Har
vey Warner Wednesday evening
October 23. to honor Mr. and
Mrs. Batie Rand on their 4tth
wedding anniversary. Rev. John
Kennev read a scripture from
the Psalms, and after prayer
the evening was devoted to con
gratulating the couple, and to
reminiscing over the past years.
Rands' store of local exper
iences and memories is long and
varied, dating back to l'-HM,
when, with his praents, he came
to the community. He has the
distinction of having lived In
the community continuously
longer than any other resident.
He was also in the first class
to graduate from Irrigon High
school in 1920.
He married "the girl next
door" who was at that time,

learned how to use trench knife
and vegetable peeler. For our
drinks we had lemonade. For
a surprise Mrs. Pettyjohn gave
us each a pumpkin to clean
and make a face. She gave us
a candle to put in it. We had
two visitors. Ricky Peterson and
Barbara Palmer.
