tackle and ran 50 yards to score.
The point was missed, and the
count was 19-0.
Later In the quarter. lone
marched downfield to the one-
yard line. Ha Worsen boomed ov
er from there. The point was
missed, and It was ia-0. The
Cards still had another score tn
the third. Halvorsen running 31
yards to get this six-pointer.
Pettyjohn ran the extra point,
and it was 32-0.
At the start of the fourth, the
Tigers gained their only score
on Turners 101 -yard ramble,
and the extra point came on
the pass play, making it 32-7.

Loacn Meyers said that it Is
very doubtful that he will be
ready to go against Riverside.
In regard to the championship
contest Friday, Coach Meyers
said, "I know they are going
to be laying for us. They are
fast and have someone who can
go all the way in this little Pe
terson. We are going to have to
play as good as we have played
all year to win."
The Riverside-Helix game
was an even -Steven affair un
til the fourth quarter, with 30
seconds remaining, the Pirates
connected on a pass, Dave
Schmeder to Bob Skoubo, good
for 20 yards and the only score.
Riverside had the edge in yard
age, piling up 187 yards to 120
for the Grizzlies.

Fired-up Rockets Defeat Heppner For

Their Homecoming proved to
be a happy one for Pilot Rock
as thev dumped the Heppner
High Mustangs is u in a loot
ball game Friday night on the
Rockets' field.
The Mustangs played In their
traditional style, starting slow
and finishing with a second
half explosion. In the first half
the Rockets penetrated the Mus
tang defense time after ttme,
twice good for a score.
After the halftlme ceremonies
Heppner came out fired up and
ready to spill the Rockets. Dur
ing the third quarter thev scor
ed twice after fumble recover
les. Heppner's pass defense
again proved defective when
Pilot Rock scored their third and
final time on a 70-yard pass
play in tne last quarter.
Top performers for the Mus
tangs were Dean Kindle who,
as hes done so many times be.
fore, played brilliantly on of
fense and also did a nice job
on defense. John McCabe, who
performed In his usual cool
manner, played a fine game.
Lee Huson, Dave Wright, and
John Hall performed commend
ably on defense.
Pilot Rock received the open
ing kickoff. Bill Quaempts,
starting at the quarterback role
for the Rockets called on Ken
Sloan on the opening plays of
tne game but tailed to get the
first down. Heppner failed to
capitalize on its first series of
downs and was forced to kick.
The Rockets took the ball first
down and ten at their own 40
yard line. On first down Shellv
Wendler took the ball 30 yards
to the Mustang 20-yard line. A
pass from ace quarterback Bill
Quaempts to Larry Mathews
was good for the score. The PAT
attempt failed.
Heppner took the ball on its
own 40-yard line, first and ten.
Kindle carried the ball for 35
yards but the run was nulli
fied by a holding penalty
against the Mustangs. On fourth
down with 17 yards to go for
tne tirst down. Dean Wright
faked a punt, but was short of
the first down, toy a mere two
yards.
Pilot Rock then took the ball
to the Mustang three-yard line.
They went in for the score but
it was nullified because a pen
alty was called against them.
The ball was then situated at
the 18-yard line. The Quaempts-

again fumbling with Heppner
taking over.

emplified their fire with Dean
Kindle taking the ball across a
few nlavs later. The PAT was
good, with the score then stand
ing Heppner 13, Pilot Rock 12.
This ended the scoring in the
third quarter.
With seven minutes left In the
game Heppner had the ball on
its own 30. The bovs picked up
two first downs. McCabe carried
the ball to the Rocket 30. Dis
aster then struck with a Mus
tang fumble.

Matt Murray Hurt
In Auto Accident
Matthew Murray, 16, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Rod Murray, re
mains In Pioneer Memorial hos
pital for treatment to Injuries
suffered In an auto accident last
Thursday night near Lexington.
He sustained a skull fracture,
lacerations and other Injuries.
Murray, a junior at Heppner
High school, was going home to
lone when his sports car went
out of control on the S-curve
just south of Lexington. He was
thrown out of the car as it
turned over.
Matt has been an important
player on the Heppner High
football team this year, and his
Injury adds another to the list
of players who are now out of
action.
The team held a late night
practice last Thursday and Mur
ray was homeward bound when
the mishap occurred about 9
