Auction Gets
Good Support
Much work and planning by
committees in charge of this
year's lone Community Auction
and Barbecue on June 1 paid
successful dividends, as it was
considereed one of the best
since its beginning. A net prof
it of approximately $2800 has
been reported, which compares
very favorably with other years.
Events of the day brought
more interested persons than
usual from out of town, and
combination of "just right"
weather with good bargains and
treasures brought out a good
crowd. The "pleasure" rides in
the Model-T Ford found ready
and waiting customers through
out the day.
About 400 persons enjoyed the
noon dinner which featured a
pit cooked beef barbecue, with
wide assortment of other pre
pared dishes. Omer Bonney of
the Hermlston Livestock Com
mission Co. called the auciton
and found interested buyers for
the wide selection of home and
farm items. Bidding was espec
iaily active on antique items,
and the Country Store had good
participation of customers for
the hand crafted items.
Earl Wright of Baker, a guest
of Don Bristow, held the lucky
ticket at the time or the draw
ing for the prized handmade
agate-topped table, a gift of the
Rev. A. H. Hazzard.
Mr. and Mrs. Keith Rea, gen
eral chairman, have expressed
appreciation to all who had t
hand in contributing to the sue
cess and enjoyment of the day's
events.
