Game Commission
To Consider Dates
Phil Schneider, state game
director, advised big game hunt
era today that the Game Com
mission will hold a public hear
Ing to consider setting opening
dutes for the 1968 deer and elk
seasons at Its next meeting on
Friday, April 5.
The hearing will be held at
the Commission's Portland
headquarters, 1634 S. W. Alder,
and will convene at 10 a.m.
Schneider emphasized that
only the opening dates of the
general deer and elk seasons
will be considered, with all oth.
er regulations pertaining to the
1968 big game hunts scheduled
for discussion when the hearing
will reconvene on May 24. The
director advised that biological
Information on the status of the
big game herds, Information on
which these regulations are
based, will not be available or
complete until late in May.
Opening dates of the deer and
elk seasons appear to be of
growing concern to thousands of
hunters who must make ad
vance vacation plans early In
the year, according to Schneider.
