tion. Pvt. Winters is home on leave
from U. S. Marine Corps training
in San Diego, and is expected
to leave In March for overseas
duty in Vietnam. He was a
graduate of Heppner High
school with the class of 1966.
Gifts Add Cheerful
Surprise at Meeting
The excitement of unwrapping
a surprising array of Christmas
gifts was shared by members of
the Soroptimist club at its
luncheon meeting last Thursday.
Each member had been asked
to bring a "white elephant" gift
for exchange during the pro
gram part of the meeting. Wide
assortment of both ornamental
and useful items brought a var
iety of responses when unwrap
ped. Christmas messages to the
club were read from Mrs. Leta
Thomas in Tucson, Ariz., from
Mrs. Grace Nickerson In Port
land, from district and regional
officers.

Honors Newlywed Couple

Mr. and Mrs. John Eldon Wag
enblast were guests of honor at
a belated wedding reception
held at the home of the groom's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin
Wagenblast in Lexington, on
Sunday afternoon, December 17.
The young college couple was
joined in marriage In an even
ing candlelight ceremony on
September 17 in Parks Wedding
Chapel in Reno, Nev. They were
attended by the parents of the
groom. The bride's wedding
gown of white Alpaca crepe
trimmed in heavy floral lace,
and the lace-edged bridal veil
which were worn during the
ceremony, were placed on dis
play during the home reception.
The newlyweds enrolled at
Oregon State University the
week following their marriage,
where the bride is a sophomore
and the groom is in his junior
year. She is affiliated with Al
pha Gamma Delta sorority and
John is a member of Farm
House fraternity.
The new Mrs. Wagenblast is
the former Jacklyn Mary Broun,
daughter of Dr. and Mrs. James
R. Broun of Pendleton, bhe was
a 1966 graduate of Pendleton
High school and was one of four
princesses who served on the
Pendleton Round-Up court the
past summer.
At the reception Jacklyn
greeted their reception guests
in an attractive white wool knit
ensemble, accented with a
Christmas corsage. 1
A three-tiered wedding cake,
topped with miniature bride and
groom, centered the serving ta
ble which was covered with
white lace over green. The
Christmas decor was carried out
in gay decorations on the ta
ble and about the home.
After-the honor couple cut and
shared the first piece of wed
ding cake, it was served by
aunts of the groom, Mrs. George
Kruger, Boardman, and Mrs.
Randall Martin of Pilot Rock.
Punch was poured by Mrs.
Dave McLeod,- Heppner , and
sprvincr coffee was Mrs. Dewey
Wagenblast of The Dalles. The
guest book was Kept Dy rurs.

A larere number of friends and
relatives came from surrounding
areas to extend good wishes to
the couple, and presented them
with many lovely gilts.

on Tuesday evening, December
19.

senior steward; Cecil Rill, jun
ior steward; and Robert Abrams,

cessor, Herman Winter, who in
turn Installed the remaining oi-

Following the lodge meeting,
officers of Heonner Chapter No.
26, Royal Arch Masons, were In

stalling chaplain.
Howard Bryant, outgoing
master, and Clarence Baker, out
going priest, were each present
ed with emblems of their past
offices.
A clam chowder feed prepar
ed by Roy Quackenbush and
Bill Cox was enjoyed in the
lodge dining room following the
Installation ceremonies.

Kindergarten Party
Visited by Santa
Kindergarten students of Mrs.
John Maatta were entertained
with a Christmas party and a
surprise visit from Santa Claus
on Friday, December 22, at
school.
Mothers and younger sisters
and brothers of the youngsters
were invited to the party as spe
cial guests and were entertain
ed with songs sung by the stu
dents. Each child received a gift
from Santa, after which games
were played and refreshments
served by the room mothers.

Observe Christmas
Members of the Tine City Ex
tension Unit Joined together for
a Christmas party at the home
of Mrs. Burl Wattenberger on
Wednesday, December 13, with
Mrs. George Lucianl assisting as
co-hostess.
Following a short business
meeting, a noon luncheon was
served by the hostesses which
featured some of the delicious
foods of Norway. Customs of
Norway, especially those relat
ed to Christmas, were discussed
by members. An enjoyable af
ternoon was spent in exchang
ing gifts and making Christmas
decorations.
The next regular meeting will
be held at the home of Mrs.
Carl Rhea on Wednesday, Jan
uary 10.

Club Meets Tuesday
Regular monthly meeting of
the Heppner Golden Age club
will be Tuesday evening, Janu
ary 2, at All Saints' Episcopal
parish hall. The usual potluck
dinner will be served, followed
by a variety of entertainment
and short business meeting.

the Christmas week-end were
their son Glen of Portland, and
McMurtry's sister, Mrs. Mary

Eugene. McMurtry, who is em

tory, returned to his home Mon
day evening, while the Andrea
sens remained until Tuesday.
