Carnation Club of the Decree
of Honor Protective Association
was entertained at the home of
Mrs. Marv Bryant on Krlday
evening for its annual Christ
mas party.

A variety of cookies were
served with a Jell-O dessert and
coffee as refreshments to the

Jan Hager is Guest At Bridal Shower
Miss Jan Hager was feted at
a bridal shower given In her
honor Saturday afternoon, ' De
cember 9. at the Methodist
church. Hostesses for the after
noon shower were Mrs. Harold
Erwln and Mrs. Wilbur Van
hloklund.

ger, and Mrs. Vern Evans, mother

ated In green and white, the col
ors Miss Hager has chosen for
her wedding. A lovely center
piece featuring candles and a
miniature bridal couple decorat
ed the refreshment table where
guests were served desserts, cof
fee, and punch.

La Grande Jaycees
Host District 13
Meeting Saturday
Several members of the Mor
row County Jaycees and their
wives attended the District 13
meeting in La Grande on Sat
urday evening, December 9.
About 150 members and
guests were present to enjoy a
potluck dinner which preceded
the meeting of officers from the
eight clubs which comprise Dis
trict 13. Jaycees representing
Umatilla, Pendleton, Hermiston,
Pilot Rock, Milton-Freewater, La
Grande, Heppner, and Wallowa
county were present at the
meeting, in addition to a spe
cial guest, Milo Haas, an Inter
national director from Milwau
kie. Other special guests from
Hillsboro and Baker were also
present.
Members going from Heppner
were Mr. and Mrs. Clyde All
stott, Mr. and Mrs. John Privett,
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hager, Mr.
and Mrs. Tom Wilson, Mr. and
Mrs. Richard Vinson, Mr. and
Mrs. Dan Anderson, Al Osmin,
and Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Bur
kenbine. ,
The Heppner group returned
home with the traveling trophy,
which is awarded to the club
having the most man-miles
traveled.
Members of the La Grande
Jaycettes were hosts to visiting
wives for an evening of cards
and games.
Dinner, Program
Of Unit Meeting
Centered on Mexico
The regular meeting of the
Rhea Creek Extension Unit was
held at the Grange hall Thurs
day, December 7. i
the topic chosen for the day s
discussion was the study of
Mexico.
Hostesses Mrs. Elmer Palmer
and Mrs. Walter Wright prepar
ed and served a dinner of tac
os, fried beans, chicken spag
hetti casserole and guacamole
tomato salad. A Mexican des
sert of Flan (custard pudding)
was served with Mexican wed
ding cookies.
After dinner, slides of Mexi
co were shown and narrated by
Mrs. Jack Sumner.
The meeting ended with the
breaking of a Mexican pinata.
Next regular meeting of the
group will be January 3. The
topic "Becoming Color", with
Mrs. Barton Clark and Mrs. Les
ter Grasser as project leaders,
will be the program for the day.
Altar Society Names
Officers; Plans Made
For Parish Dinner
Officers for the coming year
were elected at the last meet
ing of St. Patrick's Altar Society,
held December 5 at the parish
hall. Re-elected to the office of
president is Mrs. Harold Cur
nutt. She will be assisted by
Mrs. Bill Kenny, vice-president;
Mrs. Wilbur Worden, secretary,
and Mrs. Jerry Sweeney, treas
urer. During the business session,
plans were -made to help with
the parish Christmas party,
which will be held Sunday, De
cember 17, following the 11:00
a m. mass. Parish members and
their families will join togeth
er for a potluck dinner, to be
followed by a movie and a vis
it from Santa, with treats for
the children.
During the social part of the
meeting, altar society members
held a gift exchange. Refresh
ments were served by the co
hostesses, Mrs. Tim Moore and
Mrs. Ron Leonnig.
Guy HalL former Heppner res-
ident who is now making his
home in Laramie, Wyo., where
he works as a train conductor,
has been visiting his brothers-in-law
and sisters, Mr. and Mrs.
Clay Phillips in Heppner and
Mr. and Mrs. WiUiam Smethurst
in Ukiah.
