Vcrina French Gets
Scholarship to OSU
Verina French, flniiKhb'r of
Mr. and Mrs. Kaymond French,
received word from the Oregon
State Scholarship Commission
last Wednesday that she has
been awarded a partial tuition
scholarship for college study for
the comliiK year.
Mix French, a 1!M7 graduate
of lleppner Hlo.h school, was an
alternate for the scholarship
last spring She will use it to
enroll this fall ut Oregon Stnte
University, also attended by her

Family Gathering
Held in Centralia
Mr. and Mrs. Norman B. Grif
fin and Sheryl of Beaverton
were lleppner visitors on Wed
nesday, August 9, returning
home the same day, accompan
ied by Mrs. Stanley Cox and
Ix.-bbie. The group spent Thurs
day and Friday In the Salem
area visiting Mrs. Lox s grann
mother and other relatives. On
Saturday, they traveled to Cen-
ti alia. Wash , for a large iamiiy
gathering and picnic, with rela
tives coining from PoulHbo, Wn
and Tacoma.
On Monday, they traveled to
the coast, taking the Oriinns
camper. The next couple of days
were spent fishing and enjoying
the beach. They returned to
Beaverton Tuesday evening with
a catch of several nice salmon.
On Friday, Augcst 18, Mrs. Cox
entered he University of Oregon
Medical Center for major surgery
on AUKU.it 21. She is recuporat
ing quickly and has returned to
her homo In lleppner.

Mr. Norah Rasmus enjoyed
a trip last month to Vancouver
and Victoria, B. C. She drove to
Walla Walla where she Joined
a niece and husband, Mr. and
Mrs. Denton Dvsart. and ac
companied them to Seattle and
on north to British Columbia.
She especially enjoyed the tour
of Victoria, realizing her wisn
of several years.
Kindergarten Needs
More Registrations
More five-year-olds are need
ed for kindergarten this year, ac
cording to the committee In
charge irom the sponsoring
lleppner Civic League.
Parents Interested may regis
ter their youngsters on the open
ing day Tuesday in the down
stairs of the Heppro-f Junior hlgn
school building (the old high
school).
A total of 29 has registered but
40 are wanted to fill the two
sessions planned. The first sess
ion will start at a.m. ana
continue until 10:45, and the
second session will be held from
11:00 a.m. until 1:15 p.m.
Parents who would like to en
ter their 5-yea -olds are asked to
bring them to the school at 8:30
a.m. Tuesday.

Tamara Dee Smith and Rodney
Warren Brown in La Grande,
according to word received
through friends here. The coup
le will be married at a private
wedding in that city on Friday,
rather than on Saturday, as had
been announced previously.

several years, is now receiving

pital

day to bring the Gerald Berg

Michael John Bergstrom, home
from Doernbecher hospital. The
baby, "born prematurely and
weighing only 2 lb. 10 oz. at
birth, has been In the hospital
for care,. But Michael now ha3
gained so that he weighs 5 lb.

Golden Age Meetings
To Resume Tuesday
Kcgulnr monthly meetings will
resume for the Golden Age Club
on Tuesday, September 5, at the
Kplscopal church parish hall.
The club has not met during
the summer months but mem
bers and guests are urged to be
present for the coming meeting,
to start at 7:00 p.m., with a pot
luck dinner. Kntertalnment will
follow. The club weU-omes new
members, who are 50 years of
age or older, and visitors are
also welcome.

Mrr, Lucy Rodgers, who ha:
made her home in Portand for
several years, suffered a stroke
