those present designated the
first Sunday In August each
year as a permanent meeting
date tor the reunion. Mrs. lilalne

were chosen as chairmen for tho
coming year's reunion.
Names were drawn for prizes
which went to Mrs. Bert Bleak
man, Bruce Ilarshman und Nan

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Peck and
Martha during the post week
have been Mr. nnil Mrs. Dan
Scarborough III and their three
children who were vacationing
here from their home In Shrev

The two men, Peck and Scar
borough, had become close
friends when both were serving
aboard the airplane carrier, the
CSS Knterprl.se, during World
War II. 'Hie families had kept
In touch through the years, and
enloyed this opportunity to be
come better acquainted, as well
as to see this part of Oregon.

Many Extend Wishes
To Lonerock Couple
On 50th Anniversary
The Lonenxk Community
Hall was filled With relatives
and friends on Sunday, July 23,
for tho reception which honored
Mr. and Mrs. Kmmett Davla on
their Golden Wedding Anniver
sarv. Hosts for the affair were
their children. Mr. and Mrs. Lee
Davla of Genesee, Idaho; Mr
and Mrs. Cecil McDanlel of
Hardman; Mr. and Mr. Homer
Davis and Carroll Davis, all of
Lonerock.
The hall was beautifully dec
oratedc with gold atreamers and
motifs of the same color, ar
ranged by Mrs. Jim Hldenger of
Portland. The reception tanie
wus centered with a slx-tlercd
anniversary cake decorated with
yellow flowers, and flanked
with arrangements of yellow
roses.
Three sisters of Mrs. Davis
were present to assist with the
serving. Mrs. Genet Mondt of
Lincoln City cut and served the
cake after the honored couple
had shared the first piece; Kuth
Clothier, also of Lincoln City,
presided at the coffee service,
and Mrs. F.dllh Bailey of Sacra
mento, Calif., was at the punch
bowl. Mr. Lloyd Itogera ana
Mrs. Hldenger assisted the hon
orece at the gift table a they
opened their many lovely and
useful gifts.
The guest book, passed by
Carolyn Davis, a granddaughter,
was signed by 128 guests who
called to extend greetings dur
ing the day. Many come from
considerable distances for the
occasion. I
Kmmett Davis of Galax, Va.,
and Agnes Booth of Azalea were
married at Lonerock on July 18,
1917 by Morgan Word. Justice of
the M'a. The wedding took
place at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Andrew Neul, the ranch
now owned by Campbell Bros.
The groom was an employee of
Mr. Neal and the bride was a
teacher In the Lonerock school, i
Her sister, Kdith Booth Bailey,
who was present, was also an
early day teacher at Lonerock.
Weddings of 50 years ago
were much different from the
present ones, Mrs. Davis recalls.
'Hie Justice of the Peace Ward
came riding In on a white horse
to perform the ceremony before
a group of friends In the Neal
parlor. This was at 8 p.m. An
hour later the corrals were full
of horses tied to hitching rocks,
some buggies and a few cars.
Most of the neighborhood had
gathered to charivari the bride
and groom, and, according
to Mrs. Davis, they did a good
Job of it. The spacious Neal
home and front porch were
packed with merrymakers, and
festivities went on for hours.
Tho groom provided soda pop
and candy bars for treats.
Mr. and Mrs. Davis purchased
the George Perry building In
Lonerock and operated it as a
hotel for 1G years. Later they
bought the Perry ranch In Need
le Fork where they now live.
Mr. Davis, at one time, owned
the Lonerock Pastime, which Is
now the Community Hall. It Is
one of the community's htstor-1
Ic buildings and a fitting place
tor large gatnenngs. Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas Perry held their
50-year wedding anniversary
there In 1900, and the Davis
anniversary Is the second such
celebration.
Coming from Galax, Va., for
the occasion was Mr. Davis' bro
ther, Brooks Davis, who left
Lonerock 50 years ago to enlist
in the army In World War I.
This was his first trip back to
the old town.
Others coming from a dis
tance were Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Hldenger, Portland; Mrs. Pearl
McConkie, The Dalles; Leslie
lloverstock, Goldendale, Wn.;
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bennett,
Walla Walla; Mr. and Mrs. Hen
ry Brink and Jerry, Forest
Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Es-
kelson, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cra
mer, John Madden, Mrs. Truman
Bailey and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Huddleston, Lewis
Dahl and Malacht Campbell,
all of Hermiston. Also Mr. and
Mrs. Roy Robinson of Mt. Ver
non, and many guests from
Condon, Heppner, Hardman and
the surrounding country.

The trip for Mr. Palmer wa
a gift from Gilliam county, pre
sented to her at the time of her
recent retirement as county
school superintendent. After the
trip she will continue her work
as a fraternity housemother on
the OSU campus In Corvallis.

The only grandchild who was
unable to attend was Larry Hill
who Is In the U. S. Navy, sta
tioned In Adak, Alaska.
Fishing was fun hut the tun
wax hot when the Bill Musts va
cationed at Gold Beach last
week. Bill caught some fish In
the Rogue River but received a
bad sunburn in the process. The
Hust family was Joined at Gold
Beach by her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. John Henderson, of Med- j
ford. The Heppner family, on
the two weeks vacation, first .
went to Boise where a niece, '
Susan Hust, was married to
Richard Snyder on July 22. They
then went to Payette Lakes,
Idaho, for a few days and con
tlnued their trip at Medford to
visit relatives and friends be
fore going to Gold Beach.

Mrs. Gertson Leaves
For Eastern Tour
Mrs. Clara Gertson will leave
August 13 from Portland to fly
to New York where she will be
gin a 10-day Tauck bus tour
through Boston, Quebec and
Montreal, where she will visit
Expo '67.
Mrs. Gertson then plans to re
turn to St. Paul, Minn, tor a
national meeting of the Degree
of Honor Protective Association
on August 21, which she serves
as national treasurer. Following
the meeting she will fly back
to Oregon.
