to be used in sending delegates
to the State Auxiliary Conven
tion In Eugene from July 11-14.
Three auxiliary member from
this area attended the District
6 Caucus In Athena on Sunday,
June 4. Going from Heppner
were Mrs. Munkers and Mrs.
Hamlin, and from the lone aux

of Milton -Freewater.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hughes

Hughes were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Soward at a farewell
dinner at the Soward home on
Saturday, June 10.
Starkweather Girl
Announces Betrothal
Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Stark
weather, now of Portland and
former residents of Stanrieia,
are announcing the engagement
and coming marriage of their
daughter. Carol A. Starkweath
er, to Dennla H. Greer, son of
Mr. and Mm. Frederick A. Greer,
also of Portland.
The couple will be married
September 9, at Mount Tabor
Presbyterian church in Portland.
During their residence in
Stanfield, the Starkweathers
made many friends in the Hepp
ner and Condon areas.
The bride-elect attended Ore
eon State University and Port
land State and Is presently the
elementary library assistant for
the Portland Public scnoois. Mr.
Greer attended Oregon State and
Washington State Universities
and is now studying for his doc
torate in veterinary medicine.
Leathers Reunion
Planned for Sunday
The annual reunion of the

nounced for Sunday, June 18,
at the Hardman IOOF hall.
Relatives and friends are In
vited to meet at the Hardman
hall at 10:00 a.m. The families
will Join in a potluck dinner
at noon, with the afternoon de
voted to visiting and an infor
mal type of entertainment

Relatives of Mr. and Mrs.
Phlll Emert will be hosts to
an open house reception honor
ing the couple on their 25th
wedding anniversary on Sun
day, June 18, at the Dan Follett
home on the McNary highway
near Hermlston.
The couple's children, Deloris,
Phil, Robert and Connie, and
their grandmother, Mrs. Faith
Follett, extend a cordial invi
tation to their many friends and
their other relatives, to come to
the Follett home between the
hours of 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. for
the reception.
Mr. and Mrs. Emert have liv
ed most of their married years
at their present home near lone.

lone Garden club since becoming a member In 1950. Mrs. tun
dell was unable to receive the award at the district meeting,
due to an Illness which has kept her confined during the past
several weeks.
Family Visits Here
On Trip From East
A reunion with many of the
family relatives was a highlight
of the visit last week of Mr.
and Mra. Pete Kllnellne and
three children, who had been
visiting In the area from their
home In Gninsvlllc, Mo., after
an nbsence of 11 years.
During the week they visited
Mrs. Kllnellne' parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Raymond Pettyjohn In
Arlington; with her brother and
family. Mr. and Mrs. Howard
Pettyjohn, and with her sister
and family, Mr. and Mrs. Hay
Avers.
On Sunday, the families Join
ed together for a reunion pic
nic at Rooster Rock State Park
on tho Columbia. The visitors
left for their return trip east on
Monday.
Garden Club Member
Given Special Award
For Faithful Service
An appreciation plaque "for
years of faithful service render
ed to Oregon Federation of Gar
den Clubs" was presented to
Mrs. Oscar (Mary! Lundell last
week by Mrs. Cecil Jones,
who had accepted it In her
behalf nt the Blue Moun
tain District meeting In Pen
dleton In April. The dlstin
Cushed award was edged
with a gold scroll design and
signed by Mrs. Marvin Ambuhl.

Mrs. Lundell has been a mem
ber of the lone Garden Club
since the spring of 1950, shortly
after the club was chartered in
October. 1919. She has served
as president of the club four
different years, has held offices
of vice-president and secretary,
served as a delegate to state
convention In 1952, has edited
six scrapbooks, has served as
flower show chairman, and has
been faithful In preparing re
ports for a horticulture paper.
