On 60th Anniversary
Several relatives from lone
drove to Spokane, Wn. the
week-end of May 14, where they
attended the 60th wedding an
niversary celebration honoring
Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin K Mor
gan, former residents of the lone
community.
A wedding breakfast was
served to Mr. and Mrs. Morgan
and all the relatives attending
at the home of their son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. W.
D. Wynta In Medical Lake, fol
lowed by an open house at the
Morgan home In Medical Lake.
Among those in attendance
were the Morgans' four child
ren: Virgil Morgan, fiurbnnk,
Calif.; Mrs. Wynla, Medical
Lake; Claude Morgan, Spokane;
and Mrs. Gene O. McClendon,
Portland, Ore.
Among others present were
Mr. Morgan's brothers, Earl of
lone; Carl of Portland; Mr. Mor
gan's staters, Miss Lottie J.
Morgan, Cheney; and Mrs. H.
K. McKay, Eugene; and Mrs.
Morgan's brother, Avery Mar
tin, Portland. Others attending
the festivities from lone were
Mr. and Mrs. John Eubanks,
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Morgan and
Bonnie and Virgil, Teresa Stef
nnl, and Carl Troedson. Unublc
to attend was Mr. Morgan's sis
ter, Mrs. Oda Cox of Pasco.
Mr. and Mrs. Morgan were
married on May 12, 1907, at the
Morgan schoolhouse, which was
regularly used by the commu-
nitv for church and Sunday
school services. The wedding '
ceremony, one of the biggest
social events at that time, was
performed by the Rev. Thomas
Adkinson. and was followed bv ,
a seven course dinner served at '
the home of the bride's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Martin.
They resided on the ranch now
owned by Ed Buschke. The
bride wore a full length white
pure silk wedding gown fash
ioned with high lace trimmed
neckline and long leg-of-mutton
sleeves. She wore white
stockings and white embroider
ed slippers. Her wedding dress
and stockings were modeled at
the (Mllh wedding party by her
daughter-lnlaw, Mrs. Claude
Morgan. The dress was hand
made by Mrs. Clara Troedson
Smouse, mother of Kenneth
Smouse of lone.
The Morgans resided In the
Morgan vicinity until 1925,
when they moved to Medical
Lake, where they have been
very active In civic and com
munity affairs. Mr. Morgan Is
a past master of the Masonic
Lodge there and received his
50-year pin several years ago.
He Joined the Masonic Lodge
in lone when he was 21 years
old and his father, A, C Mor
gan, was master.
Besides the four children, the
Morgans have 12 grandchildren
and 16 great-grandchildren.
Dinner, Flag Day
On Elks Program
The annual Flag Day obser
vance will be a part of the pro
gram for the June 1 meeting of
Heppner r.iks Lodge No. 3.j8.
The special service will begin at
8:00 pm, following the serving
of a fried chicken dinner, with
Mr. and Mrs. Don Heiker as
chairmen of the dinner commit
tee. Ladlei Night activities are al
so planned for the evening of
June 1.
