satin. The gown wa fashioned
with oval neckline edged In
chant Illy lace with Jeweled
medallion circling the neck
line, edging the hemline of the
gown and the flowing, detach
able train. Her short Illusion
net veil wa held by a Jeweled
flower headpiece. She carried a
bridal bouquet of gardenia and

bride from Portland. Gowns of

anthemum. Jim Steagall of Portland,
friend of the groom, served as

Monagle, Henry Pointer, cousin
of the groom, both of Portland,
and Jerry Anderson of North
Bend.
The couple greeted their many
friends and relatives at a recep
tion following the ceremony in
the parish hall.
After the newly weds cut and
shared the first piece of the
tiered wedding cake, It was
served by Mrs. Harry Marks and
Mrs. Don Ford, both of Hermis
ton. Pouring were Mrs. James
Daly, Pendleton, grandmother of
the groom; Mrs. George Max
well, Sedro Wooley, Wa, aunt of
the bride, and Mrs. Walter An
derson. At the punch table were
Mrs. George O'Brien, Seattle,
Wn., aunt of the bride, and Mrs.
A. C. Lindsay, Lexington, aunt
of the groom.
Sandra Boyd of Corvallls,
cousin of the groom, kept the
guest book. Attending the gift
table were Mrs. II. K. Hlckey of
The Dalles, and JoAnne Marks
and Mr. Harry Marks.
The bride attended Gonzaga
University, Spokane, Wn., and
Central Washington State col
lege, Kllenshurg, Wn. the groom
attended Portland University
and spent two years In Germa
ny with the 3rd Missile Battal
ion, 79th Artillery, and one year
In the armed services stationed
in the states.
Following their wedding trip
along the Oregon coast the
couple Is now at home In Port
land, where Mr. Doherty Is em
ployed by Proctor and Gamble.
Guests came from the follow
ing towns In Washington: Wal
la Walla, Seattle, Sedro Wooley,
Mount Vernon and Marble
Mount. Others attended from
the following towns In Oregon:
Kugene, North Bend, Coos Bay,
Yamhill, Milton-Frecwater, Cor
vallls, Portland, La Grande,
Pilot Rock, Pendleton, McNary,
Umatilla, The Dalles, lone,
lleppner and Lexington.
Gayle Cox, son of Mr. and
Mrs. bill Cox, will be on vacat
ion from his. work with United
Airlines at the Portland airport
during the next two weeks. Dur
ing this time he plans to spend
several days vacationing in
Australia, Honolulu and New
Zealand, according to word re
ceived by his parents.

Scholarship Fund
St. Patrick's Altar Society met
In a regular session on Febru
ary 7. In the parish hall. Mrs.
Harold Curnutt, president, call
ed the meeting to order,

Gertrude Applcgute scholarship
fund which the society main
tains In Mr. Applegate's mem
ory. Discussion brought out that
contributions may be made to
this fund nt any time bv any
one as a gift or memorial. The
fund finance college scholar
ship awards to be given to stu
dents going to college from St.
Patrick's parish: Maureen Do
herty and Tom Rawlins received
last year's awards.
Members were Invited to a
Valentine breakfast which was
served them by the men of the
Holy Names Society on Febru
ary 12.

and among them were several
bags of lily bulbs and five rose
bushes. After showing the group mod
ern trends In landscaping with
the aid of the slides, questions
were answered by Mr. Mills end
Harold Miller, a landscape con
liactor ot Milwaukle and Mr.
Yancey of the Blue Mountain
Nursery at Milton-Freewater,
who accompanied them to tha
meeting. They assisted with ad
vice on what types of plantings
were suitable for our climate
and soil.
Following the meeting coffee
and cookies were served by the
hostesses.
The men were guests of Mr.
and Mrs. F. T. Martin while In

Gets Honor from Club

Mrs. Klviia Kaven, aunt t Har
old Scrltsmclcr, former Heppner
resident, on her 87th birthday
at a Portland Soroptimlst club
luncheon last Thursday at the
Benson Hotel. Mrs. Scritsmeler
will be remembered here as the
former Paul Cason, sister of
Mrs. Fay Prock, and the coup
le was In lumber business here
for several years.
Mrs. Raven was lauded by
many prominent Portland per
son for her outstanding civic
work In Portland, especially In
promoting and continued work
In the Overlook Community
Center, a recreational and so
cial center. Also for her work
in the Junior Museum, in orga
nizing the Junior Police and Ju
nior Rose Court, and her
work with the Junior Rose Fest-
tival Association. Her home has
always been open to children
and service men. Both Mrs. Ra
ven and her husband, Herman,
have displayed rare public
spirit and at the same time
have built up their Raven Dairy,
Mrs. Raven was a charter
member of the Portland Soroptl
mist club.
