My Recipe for a 4-H Leader
The l-II leaders are the backbone of our 4-H
clubs. To sum it all up, I have a recipe for a full
fledged 4-H leader:
Take 12 full months of 4-H work; divide each
of the.se months into 28, 30, or 31 parts. Prepare
one meeting at a time as follows:
Into each meeting put 12 parts of together
ness, 11 parts of responsibility, 10 parts of get
ting to know you, 9 parts of courage, 8 parts
of work (some omit this ingredient and so spoil
the rest), 7 parts of loyalty, G of personality, 5
of kindness, 4 of recreation (leaving this out is
like leaving the oil out of the salad), 3 of special
activities, 2 of refreshments and 1 of touring
each member's projects.
To this add a dash of fun, a sprinkle of play,
and a cupful of good humor. Pour into the
whole mixture lots of leadership and mix with
vim. Cook thoroughly with fervent heat, garnish
with smiles and a sprig of joy. Serve with great
ness, unselfishness, and cheerfulness. Happy
4-H members are sure to be the result.

PROCLAMATION
Character development and
good citizenship are two of
the bonuses that come from
membership In 4-H clubs, and
these benefit the public at
large, as well as the youths
participating In the program.
From the ranks of the 4-H
club today will come many
of tomorrow's leaders, and so
all should take considerable
satisfaction In the growth of
the movement, which was
Inaugurated by the United
States Government in 1914
and has now spread not only
across the nation but to 72
foreign countries as well.
Through demonstrations and
participating in activities, 4-H
members learn by doing. At
the same time they improve
their homes and communities.
Key to the success of the
movement is the work of the
voluntary adult leaders, and
parents and friends who sup
port 4 H and give encourage
ment to the members.
Opportunities in 4-H are
open to all bovs and girls
from ages 9 to 21, and these
opportunities are right here In
Morrow county through the
many local clubs that offer
training In many practical
skills.
THEREFORE, I, as County
Judge of Morrow County, Ore
gon, do hereby designate the
week of September 24 to Oc
tober 1, 1966, as 4-H Club
Week In Morrow county.
In official recognition where
of, I hereby affix my signa
ture this 23rd day of Septem
ber, 1966.
