THIS SALIC ENDS SEPT. 3rd Effective New Weed Chemicals Need Precaution Br cene winters Morrow County Agent Now herbicide material now available for vise on American 'ir?"s do a far better Job of con trolling weeds than ever before, but thev also require a lot more care and Rood common sense. Modem herbicides work well to control weeds when used cor rectly. I'sod Incorrectly they mav damage desirable plants. ' Weed control chemicals now are much sharper tools than thev used to be. And like fine tools, should bo used with the care and respect due thorn. Take for example, Ttodon herbicide. An entirely now chemical material which Is about twentv times as effective as 2.4 -P. This means it will solve lots of problems 2.4-D won't touch. It also means that if used Incorrectly you can do a lot more damage. I'sers of sericulture chemicals should always read the label carefully and follow its recom mendations precisely. The lab els on the herbicide containers are written with great care to state only facts. It tells first what the herbicide ts. It tells the amount of active ingredi ents in the product The label also makes recommendations for use and elves rates and time of application. Certain warnings are stated when nec essary for precautions to he ta ken. The Tordon label as an ex ample lists restrictions for use on cropland and the time of planting broad loafed and crass family plants. A portion of the label reads ". . . For spot treat ment of crop land, remove area actually treated from grazing and crop production as residues may result. NOTE: Do not plant grass crops used for food, feed or grazing until two years after last application . . ." Other herbicides have similar instructions for use.
