The Rev. Mr. Dirk Rinehart
will hav his first Sunday ser
vice at All Saints' Episcopal
church at 10 a.m. on Sunday,
August 7. The service of morn
ing: prayer will be followed by a
coffee hou. in the parish house.
Rev. Rinehart was ordained to
the IVaconate of the Episcopal
church recently in Cove, where
he spent the summer serving as
manager of Ascension Summer
Camp. He was graduated in
June from the Divtnitv School
of the Tacific in Berkeley. Calif.
The Rineharts arrived in Hep
pner Monday after a trip to
visit Mr.. Rmehart's family on
Orcas Island in the San Juan
Islands.
Vacationers Enjoy
Week-end Travels
Mr. and Mrs. Clint McQuar-
rie have returned from a golf
ing vacation along the Oregon
coast and at Mt. Hood.
Thev left Thursday, July 2S.
on two hours notice, according
to Marie, traveling first to Long
Beach, Wn.. then south along
the coast to Salishan and re
turned inland to Welches at Zig-
Zag.
The weather along the coast
was quite chilly but they had
very nic? weather at Welches
and found that things had be
come much warmer in Heppner
upon their return Thursday.

Volumes Increase
In Cify Library
Number of books in the Hepp
ner Public library has boon
increased to 5,736 from 5.Ch5
listed in 1965, annual report
presented to the city council by
Marion C-tetn, library president,
shows.
There are now 3,557 adult vol
umes in the library" 'd 2,179
Juvenile books. A total of 96
adult books was added during
the year and 33 were withdrawn
At the same time 127 juvenile
books were added and 19 were
withdrawn.
Circulation for the year show
ed that 7.099 books were loaned
for use outside the library, in
eluding 3,491 adult volumes ami
3 4il juvenile volumes, as well
as 167 unbound periodicals.
Twenty-one periodicals are re
ceived in the library-, including
one by paid subscription and 1$
by gift, and one newspaper Is
received by gilt.
Receipts for the year totaled
S21SS.S4. including a $1600 do
nation of city funds, provided in
the city builget; $30 from the
Elks; $10') in miscellaneous do
nations; and S62.J.) in memor
ials. Operating expenditures tot
aled 51b6.'.iV.
Budget for the coming fiscal
year is su at $2000.
Blanche Brown is librarian,
and the library is open 11 hours
per week, four each on Mondays
and Wednesdays and three on
Saturdays.
Besides Green, officers of the
library board are Mrs. Lucy Pet
erson, vice president: Mrs. Nora
Turner, secietary-troasurer; and
Mrs. Chailes Slarks and Clarence
Baker, trustees.
Green told the council that
another director needs to be ap
pointed to fill a vacancy on the
board.
Mrs. Winters Serves
As Jackson County
Judge on 'Vacation'
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Winters
went to Medford last week and
renewed acquaintances in that
city while Mrs. Winters judged
at "the Jackson County 4-H Con
test Week.
Jackson County 4-H'ers num
ber about 1500 boys and girls
and so the contest week re
quired the services of two home
economics judges. Mrs. Winters
judged all home economics
demonstrations, home improve
ment demonstrations and sew
ing contests. This amounted to
five full days of work.
The Winters stayed with
friends whe had been neighbors
when they lived in Medford.
Stephanie' and Pat Winters re
mained in Heppner with Mr.
and Mrs. Gail McCarty.
In Portland they stopped to
visit with Pastor and Mrs. Ken
neth Robinson, former Heppner
residents and report the Robin
sons to be well and thinking of
their Heppner friends.
