last week-end to atend the grad
uation exercise of their son,
John, from the Uulverslty of Port
land. Ho received a bachelor of
art degree and Is employed at
present In Portland. Unfortun
ately, John became 111 with a
serious nosebleed and was un
able to attend the ceremony. Mr.
and Mrs. Swanson also went to
Portland this week end and on
to balem, where they attended
the wedding of Mrs. Swunson'l
grand nelee, Dolores Salstrorn.
They visited with relatives In Sa
lem and C'orvallis before return
ing home, on Monday.
Mrs, Aden Hamlett and family
drove to Salem over the week
end, where they visited her bro
ther In-law- and sister, Mr. and
Mxs. Klmo McMillan. They also
got to visit with the McMillan's
daughter, Mrs. Don Ramsey and
baby from San Francisco.
Mr. and Mrs. Verner Troedson
ie turned Monday evening from
a weeks vacation spent at Idaho
Falls, where they visited friends,
and at Yellowstone Purk. They

New Records Set
At lone Auction
And Barbecue
New records were set at the
lone Community Auction and
pit cookel beef barbecue, spon
sored by th lone United Church
of Christ, Saturday.
The committee figured the
gross proceeds at some $3320
with bills of some $-100 or moie
yet to be paid. Most of the food
was donated for the barbecue,
with the exception of the meat,
and articles for the auction sale
were also donated.
Some 310 persons served at the
barbecue at noon In the Willows
Grange hall. This Is believed to
be the largest crowd In the four
year history of the event, the
first bringing out 180.

for the cause, and the Country
Store, new this yea, grossed
$113.
At the all-day auction sale,
cried by Don Wink of Hermlston,
most items brought good prices.
Among major Items were a steer,
donated by Norman and Fred
Nelson, which brought $200; a
hydraulic hoist, donated by Roy
and Art Llndstrom, which
brought $2S9; and an old-fashioned
pump organ, which sold
for $100.
In greatest demand at the sale
were antique Items collected by
t h e committee. Including old
kerosene lamps, flat irons, tread
le sewing machines and others.
Fine weather, breaning from
cold and gusty days, contributed
to the all-around sucess of the
event. Milton Morgan was gen
eral chairman, and many, many
persons of the lone community
assisted In different capacitiee.
Proceeds of the auction and
barbecue will go to worthy pro
jects through the church.

Morning worship will be held
at 9:30 a.m. through the sufmer
instead of at the 11 a.m. time.

dist church and Christian church

spend four days of camping at
Frazer Government Camp a mile
from Lehman Springs from Fri
day through Monday, youth lead
ers announce.
Mornings and evenings will
be devoted to worship and Bible
study while most of the after
noons will be spent swimming
at Lehman Springs and In rec
reational activities.
Three college students, Dick
Struckmeier, Chuck Barnes and
Jean Stockard, will heln the
I adult leaders, Mr. and Mrs. Carl
I Marquardt, Mr. and Mrs. Everett
Struckmeier and Mr. and Mrs.
i Jay Wheelhouse, with all areas
of the camp schedule.
The Rev. Al Borchee, pastor of
the Christian churches, will help
Friday and Saturday. Church
services will be conducted at the
worship center at the camp on
Sunday.
More than 30 young people
are expected to share in the camp
experience. Each is asked to pay
$4 for food expenses, and each
will pay for his own swimming
fees.
Clarence Porter, son-in-law of
Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Anderson,
received a Doctor of Philosophy
degree in science from Oregon
State University at commence
ment exercises on Sunday, June
5. His wife Is the former Carol
K. Anderson. They will move to
Portland in the fall when Por
ter assumes a teaching position
at Portland State University
and his wife will return to col
lege study.
Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Neill nova
moved to the Valle Vista Home
in Hermlston for a time. They
will have a room together in
the home and will be near to
members of their family living
in Hermiston. They will be
happy to see or hear from
friends in Heppner.
