of corn and grain sorghums did.
For the present, hybrid wheat
yields continue to look promis
ing on the basis of research work
done In Kansas. However, the
cost of producing such seed on
a commercial basis is yet to be
determined.
There is some Indication that
hybrid wheat seed may be avail
able commercially in five or so
years.

Restrictions Changed

Within the last three weeks
there have been two changes in
restrictions of herbicides used
for weed control.
Tordon ipldoraml has clear
ance now for spot treatment on
cropland. Areas treated must be
removed from production. L'nder
Morrow county conditions, Tor
don applied at the recommended
rate will practically Insure no
production of seeded crops for
two years.
Tordon has given excellent re
sults for the control of deep root
ed perennial weeds such as
Morning Glory. Canada Thistle
and Russian Knapweed.
Tordon may be applied any
time during the growing season
when there is no frost in the
soil.
The "Karamex" diuron label
has now been changed to In
clude all wheat growing areas
with an annual rainfall of 10
inches and above. Previously
this material was registered for
use on wheat where annual rain
fall was 16 inches and above.
Properly timed applications of
diuron have controlled a num
ter of annual weeds and grass
es. This treatment will not con
trol perennial weeds such as
Morning Glory or Canada This
tle. The effect of diuron on wheat
varies with soils, uniformity of
applications and environmental
conditions. Growers should lim
it their first use to small areas.
It should not be used on loamy
sand soils or sandy loams low
in organic matter.

of Tordon or diuron may be
found at the County Extension
office or from your chemical
dealer or applicator.

be sold under various trade
names.
