Burglars Force Entry;
Valuables Stolen

IONE Officers are investigat
ing a robbery, which took place
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
A. E. Stefani sometime early
Wednesday evening. Entry was
gained by breaking and unlock
ing a rear window. Personal
jewelry, silverware, came r a s,
binoculars and small articles of
value were taken.
The Stefanis had been home
in the late afternoon and then
had gone to work at their res
taurant. Upon returning to the
house about 11:30, they did not
at first notice anything wrong.
Everything was carefully put
back in place, but the house had
been completely ransacked.
The burglary is believed by
thei officers to be the work of
experts.
A National Assembly was
given at the lone school cafe
torium on Tuesday for the en
joyment of the elementary and
high schools. Art Jennings pre
sented the "Psychology of a
Clown."
The first baseball game of the
season will be Tuesday afternoon
on the lone field against Stan
field at 2:00 p.m. That evening
will be the band concert at 8:00
p.m.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jepsen
were hosts Friday night for a
shower and card party honoring
Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay Kincaid.
Gifts were brought for the Kin
caid's new baby daughter. Other
guests were Mr. and Mrs. Keith
Rea, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Rietmann,
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lindstrom,
Mr. and Mrs. John Jepsen, Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn, Jr., Mr.
and Mrs. Gil Lujan, and Mr. and
Mrs. Carol Miller.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Lundell
drove to Parkland, Wn., on
Thursday and took Cheryle up
for a visit with her brother-in-law
and sister, Mr. and Mrs.
Francis Stack. On Saturday the
Stacks brought Cheryle to Port
land, where they met her par
ents. Cleo Drake underwent major
surgery at Veterans hospital in
Portland on Friday morning. He
is reported to be making satis
factory recovery. Mrs. Drake is
in Portland with him. Her
daughter, Mrs. Ray Turner and
boys of Eugene, who were here
visiting this week took Mrs.
Drake down. Robert Drake and
his grandmother Mrs. E. R. Lun
dell went down on Sunday to
visit his father.
Suzanne McClintock is visiting
her father, F. M. McClintock at
Cecil, during her spring vacation
from school in Los Angeles.
Susan Jane Jepsen spent the
spring vacation in Pendleton

them to Portland and attended
some of the OEA meetings.
Mrs. Ray Kinder and Debbie
and Cindy of The Dalles were
guests of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. John Jackson from Friday
to Sunday. The girls also visited
at the home of their other grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bar
nett and at the James Barnett
home.
Miss Marilyn Morgan of Port
land was visiting her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Milton Morgan,
Saturday and Sunday. Other
guests with Marilyn were Misses
Judy and Joan Merchant of Port
land. The girls spent Saturday
in Pendleton visiting a former
Oregon State classmate, Miss
Jan Thompson, who is leaving
on Wednesday for a six month
tour of Europe.
Mrs. E. C. Heliker returned
on Monday from a three week
tour of the Hawaiian Islands. She
was accompanied by her daugh
ter, Mrs. Harriet Bolman of
Seattle. Mrs. Heliker visited her
brother George Zink in Portland
on the way home.
John Krebs is spending a 2Vz
week spring vacation with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Krebs
and Jeri. He flew to Portland
from his school at Victoria and
was met there by his parents.
Dinner Honors Mrs. Eubanks
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen
were hosts for a dinner on Sun
day evening honoring Mrs. Vela
Eubanks on her birthday. Other
guests at the potluck dinner were
Mr. and Mrs. John Eubanks and
Sandra, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Bren
ner and Judy Eubanks, Mr. and
Mrs. Kenneth Brenner and Aaron
Smith of Heppner, Mr. and Mrs.

Mrs. John Sanders and children
and her mother, Mrs. Mattie
Morgan of Portland, came up on
Tuesday for a visit at the home
of her sister, Mrs. John Eubanks,
and with other relatives. Mr. San
ders joined his family here on
Saturday and they returned
home on Sunday. Mrs. Morgan
remained for a longer visit.

jor surgery in a Pendleton hos
pital on Tuesday morning.

Martin are their son, Melvin, and
Shawleen Holloway of Albany,
both students at Oregon State,
who arrived on Saturday for a
week's vacation. The Martins
drove to Corvallis on Thursday
to pick up their daughter, Jean,
and bring her home for spring
vacation.
Len Darst of Salem left on
Wednesday after a few days visit
here with his uncle and aunt,
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Carlson, and
family.
Barbara Bishop and Sherry
Benson spent several days last
week in Portland and Salem.
They made the trip by train and
whiie in Salem visited the State
Capitol.
Mrs. M. E. Cotter left on Sun
day for a few days in Portland.

IONE At a business meeting
of Willows Grange on Sunday
afternoon, Miss Judy Sherer was
chosen to represent the grange
as rodeo princess in the Morrow
county court this summer.
Other business included an ex
planation of various kinds of in
surance available through the
grange by Berl Akers, grange
insurance agent. The agricult
ural committee presented the fol
lowing program: "Weather Wis
dom," a recitation by Donna and
Debra Palmer, "The North Wind"
by Lori Childers, and "The
Chickens" by Barbara Palmer, a
skit "Who's So Smart" by Wal
lace Matthews and W. C. Craw
ford, and a song in Swedish with
piano accompaniment by Carl
Troedson.
An outstanding feature of the
program were the slides and ac
companying comme n t a r y on
"The Business of Raising Sheep,"
by Mrs. Henry Krebs. She depic
ted the story from the early
years of sheep raising with the
birth of the lambs, home hous
ing, and feeding of alfalfa, to
the new processes when sheds
are warm, feeding is done almost
entirely with pellets made from
alfalfa, and shearing done in
December and January.
The slides showed the lambs
being prepared for market, and
the butchering and marketing of
the meat. They also showed a
comprehensive view of prepar
ing the wool, carrying through
the process of making yardage
and getting it to the Oregon
Woolen Miils for making into
garments.
Twenty-five year pins were
presented to Mrs. John Eubanks,
Mrs. Donald Heliker, Mrs. Lewis
Halvorsen, and Carl Troedson.
The charter was draped in
memory of Oscar Lundell and
George Fichter.
Members voted to return to
evening meetings and the next
regular meeting will be on Sat
urday night, April 18. A work
day is planned for April 12, when
members are requested to come
in work clothes and bring tools.
It Is hoped to complete some
work in the basement. There will
be a potluck dinner at noon.
