IRRIGON At the December
city council meeting, the Council
accepted a feasibility report on
a city water system. Mayor
Chester Wilson was appointed
as the city's representative in
bringing the program to its com
pletion. After Christmas, Informative
letters will be mailed to prop
erty owners in Irrigon, explain
ing the proposed system, and the
approximate cost. These letters
will be followed by a public
meeting which will be held for
the purpose of answering ques
tions that may be raised. Plans
are for the engineering represen
tatives to be present at this
meeting to assist the council in
answering questions. Archie
French of the Cornell, Howland,
Hayes and Merryfield Engineer
ing firm is working with the
city of Irrigon on this project.

Circuit Judge Henry Kaye, ac
ting as pro tern judge for Judge
William Wells in Morrow county
circuit court, last Wednesday up
held the conviction of Heppner
justice court of Dr. A. D. Mc
Murdo who had been found
guilty on a charge of waste of
game In the lower court. He was
fined $25 in justice court. Dr.
McMurdo was issued a citation
on the charge after a dead game
bird was found where he had
been hunting.

Crossing To Be Opened
An agreement has been signed
between the city of Irrigon and
the Union Pacific Railroad for
clearing the legal details that
have delayed the opening of the
6th street crossing. Authorization
to proceed with the construc
tion of the crossing is expected
to follow shortly.
Verbal appreciation was voiced
for the men who have donated
time and labor to clean up the
lots adjoining the railroad track.
Appreciation was expressed to
Ernest Stephens, Leon Bentlcy
and Mayor Chester Wilson for
their efforts in improving these
lots.
Christmas Programs Planned
The Irrigon Baptist church and
the Assembly of God church will
each have a Christmas program
Sunday evening, December 22,
both programs starting at 7:30
p.m.
The A. C. Houghton Bobcats
played basketball at btanneld
Friday, with Stanfield narrowly
winning the B-team game in an
overtime period by a score of
23-21. The A. C. Houghton Bob
cats walked off with the A game
with a 40-14 score. The Bobcats
are coached by Mike Riddle.
School Christmas vacation at
A. C. Houghton will begin after
school is dismissed on Friday,
December 20. There will be no
early dismissal. School will re
sume Thursday, January 2.
Kindergarten registration will
take place on January 13 and
14, at the school. Birth certifi
cates will be required.
Riverside High school will
meet Athena Friday night, and
Stanfield Saturday night, both
games to be played at River
side, and both games beginning
at 6:30 p.m.
The Irrigon Baptist church
joined the Boardman Community
church at Boardman following
their Sunday evening services for
a Singspiration. Special numbers
were rendered by Misses Elnora
Eppenbach and Janice Marlow
of the Irrigon church, and Misses
Carolyn and Luann Burg of
Boardman.
Miss Jeanne Gille, grand
daughter of Mrs. Myrtle Mc
Namee, entered the Umatilla
hospital Monday, and her illness
has been diagnosed as rheu
matic fever.
Mrs. Glynn Aldrich entered
Good Shepherd hospital Satur
day, with pneumonia.
Rev. and Mrs. John Kenney
McCorkle and family and Mrs.
and John. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene
Myrtle Markham attended a
Missionary Convention held at
the Hermiston Assembly of God
church over the week-end.
The A. C. Houghton school
Christmas program will be pre
sented at the cafetorium Thurs
day night, December 19, at 7:45
p.m.
Jayvees Split Two
With DeSales Irish
Heppner's Mustang Jayvees
split with DeSales in their first
basketball outings of the sea
son, taking the Dec. 6 game
here by a 45-32 count and drop
ped the Dec. 7 tilt the by
a score of 53-46.
The first night the Jayvees
jumped to a 12-6 first quarter
lead over the Irish and survived
a rally by DeSales in the final
stanza to take the win. Scoring
high for the Heppner crew in
the first outing was Gene Hel
iker who garnered 10 counters
for the night. Mark Brown and
Tim Driscoll each contributed
eight points. High point man for
the Irish was Gowan with 12.
December 7 the Jayvees travel
ed to Walla Walla to tangle with
the same team they had met
the preceding night.
The two teams fought evenly
through the first half and at in
termission the Irish held a 21-20
iead.
In the third stanza the Mus
tangs roared back to outscore
their opponents and take a 34
31 advantage. Leading the Mus
tangs in this barrage were Scott
Barratt and Dave Hanna who
grabbed 12 points between them.
DeSales, however, was not to
be denied and in the last
stretch set out to prove it. Their
momentum carried them over
the top as the scored 20 points
to the Mustang's 12 and took
the contest.

Mrs. Peterson Better
Mrs. Oscar Peterson, wife of
County Judge Feterson, was dis
missed from Fioneer Memorial
hospital after treatment of sev
eral days for a severe cold. Judge
Feterson said that she is feeling
much better and will stay in
their house in Heppner for a
few days before returning to the
ranch home.
