MICHELLE KAY MORRISON. 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jodie Morrison of lone, received another
title of royalty when she was chosen by the athletic department of Oregon State University to
represent the school in the Campus Queen contest sponsored by Sport magazine. She was selected
as one of the four finalists by the magazine, and her picture and writeup appear in the November
issue of Sport, now on the newsstands. The Campus Queen winner will be chosen later in the year
by the magazine, Michelle, a sophomore majoring in elementary education at Oregon State and
a graduate of lone High school, was also Miss Sport at the university during her freshman year.
She was chosen as Morrow county's entry in the Miss Universe contest two years ago.

lone 4-H Livestock
Club Elects Officers
On October 25 the first fall
meeting of the lone Livestock
4-H club was held in the high
school. The meeting was called
to order by Vice-president Paul
Proudfoot. New officers were
elected for the year with Charles
Nelson elected president; Kerry
Peterson, vice-president; Neal
Christopherson, secretary, and
Earl Pettyjohn, news reporter.
Joe Hay presented members
and officers with booklets. Th?
new members are Herbert Ek
strom, Jerry Pettyjohn, David,
Debby and Darlene Warren. Our
new leaders are Jean Nelson,
Jim Pettyjohn and Herb Ekstrom.

IONE Installation services for
the Rev. Walter B. Crowell as
minister of the United Church
of Christ were held at the lone
church on Sunday afternoon and
evening, October 27. Guests gath
erod at 4:00 p.m. for a coffee
hour, which was hosted by Mrs.
O. L. Lundell, Mrs. Ella Bur
goyne, Mrs. W. C. Crawford, Mrs.
Dale Ray, and Mrs. O. E. Lind
strom. Mrs. Walter Roberts had
charge of the guest book. Vis
itors registered from The Dalles,
Condon, Milton-Freewater, En
terprise, as well as lone. The
minister met with the pastoral
committee followed by the Ec
clesiastical Council, when Robert
Jepsen, moderator of the lone
church, presented Rev. Crowell
to the council for the reading
or tne pastor s paper.
Special sermon for the instal
lation services was delivered by
Dr. A. J. Buttrey, superintendent
and minister of the Oregon Con
ference of the United Church of
Christ. Rev. Edward J. Morrison,
of the Ingle Chapel Congregat
ional church at Milton-Free-water
gave the invocation and
led in the Lord's Prayer and
choral response. Rev. James E.
Jones, minister of the Commun
ity Congregational church at En
terprise read the scripture lesson,
with Rev. James Halfaker of the
Federated Church at Milton
Freewater reading the moder
ator's statement and the charge
to the minister.
Rev. Fred R. Morrow from the
First Congregational United
church at The Dalles gave the
charge to the congregation and
Robert Jepsen led the response
of the members followed by the
prayer of installation by Rev.
William H. Tempest, minister of
the Zion United Church of Christ
of Gresham and Moderator of
the Oregon Conference of the
United Church of Christ. The
minister from the United Church
of Christ at Condon, Rev. Ran
dolph E. Middleton, gave the
declaration of installation and
led in the Right Hand of Fellow
ship with the final benediction
by the Rev. Crowell.
The choir under the direction
of Carol Miller sang two num
bers, "Lord Jesus, Think on Me"

The annual meeting of this association will be held in Heppner,
Oregon on Monday, November 1 8, beginning at 6 p. tn. in the Fair
Pavilion. The meeting will immed iately follow a dinner at which the
champion 4-H Steer will be served by the ladies of the Rhea Creek
Grange. Dinner will be served promptly at 6 p. m.
Valuable door prizes will be given, some at 6 p. m. and others
later. A whole 4-H steer will be divided into 10 door prizes as well
as two hogs and other valuables. Come and get in on the prizes.
Three directors are to be elected, filling the places now occu
pied by Elmer Palmer, Walter Jacobs and E. H. Miller, Jr. Seven
associate directors are also to be elected. Company policy will be
discussed and such other business as may rightly come before such
a meeting will be taken care of.
Come and bring your neighbors.

at the school cafetorium. Chair
man of the dinner committee
was Mrs. Earl McCabe, assisted
by Mrs. Garry Tullis, Mrs. Robert
Jepsen, Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn,
Mrs. Norman Nelson, Mrs. Lind
say Kincaid and Mrs. Robert
Rietmann. Others assisting about
the rooms were Mrs. Wallace
Matthews, Mrs. Marion Palmer,
Mrs. Harvey Ring, Mrs. Lee
Palmer, Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen,
and Arleta McCabe. Rainbow
girls, who helped serve were Lee
O'Connor, Susan Lindstrom, Ter
esa Tucker, Elaine Savage, Lin
da Rowell and Sherry Corley.
Rev. and Mrs. Jones were over
night guests of Mr. and Mrs.
E. M. Baker on Sunday. Dr. and
Mrs. Buttrey of Portland were
entertained at the home of Rev.
and Mrs. Crowell. Guests at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Mar
tin were Rev. Tempest of Gresh
am and the Rev. Alfred Shirley
of Portland, who formerly served
the lone church for nine years.
Visit From Travis Base
Captain and Mrs. C. L. Bren
ner, accompanied by Major Clif
ford Blue, of Travis Air Force
Base, arrived in lone on Friday
to spend the week-end hunting
and visiting Brenner's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Brenner. Ma
jor Blue is an ardent hunter and
has hunted in all parts of the
world, including big game hunts.
Unfortunately their hunt here
was unsuccessful and they re
turned to their base on Sunday.
Bob Griffith of Milwaukie was
a guest of his cousin, George
Griffith and family, on Monday.
He was on his way home from
an elk hunt in the Ukiah area.
Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Akers
brought Danny home from Port
land last Monday. He was re
cently released from Doernbecker
hospital following major surgerv.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn
spent several days at Portland
and on the Oregon coast this
week. They returned on Wed

Homecoming Queen
A Homecoming dance became
something of a victory dance
Friday evening following the ex
citing football game between the
Pirates of Riverside and the lone
Cardinals, when the Cards came
out on top by a score of 20-7.
The win places lone as cham
pions of the Umatilla-Morrow 8
man league and a contender for
district championship. The dance
planned by the student council
was a very successful affair, with
a large attendance. Committees
