Guests Attend
Rainbow Meeting '
Many guests attended the
meeting ot Kuth Assemoiy,
Order of Rainbow for Girls, at
the Masonic hall Monday night.
Diane Schaffitz, outgoing worthy
advisor, was honored on her 16th
birthday with refreshments serv
ed after the meeting by Mrs.
Clarence Baker, Mrs. Harley
Young, and Mrs. Jim Myers.
Guests Included Mrs. Harold
Beckett, grand deputy; Mrs.
Lewis Halvorsen, mother advisor
of lone assembly and worthy
matron of lone OES; and Lee
O'Connor, worthy advisor of
lone assembly. Also present was
Mrs. Lucille Wilson, advisory
board member.
The assembly welcomed two
new advisory board members,
Mrs. Floyd Worden and Mrs. Wes
Marlatt.
The worthy grand advisor and
supreme deputy for Oregon will
make their official visit
here October 3 at a joint meeting
of the Ruth and lone assemblies
at the Masonic hall.
Installation of new officers
will be held, with Rogenia Wil
son going in as worthy advisor,
and is open to the public. Exact
date and time will be announced
later.
Links Club Plans
Neil White Succumbs
In Pendleton Hospital
Graveside services were con
ducted at the Lexington cem
etery Tuesday afternoon, Sep
tember 17, for Nell White who
died Friday at a hospital in
Pendleton. Funeral services had
been held earlier that day at the
Folsom Funeral Chapel, Pendle
ton, with the Rev. Raymond'
Riese officiating. Rev. Earl Sow-
ard, Lexington, presided at the
graveside services.
Mr. White was born In Lexlng
ton, the son of the late Marsh
and Sarah White. He lived most
of his life in Morrow and Uma
tilla counties. At the time of
his death he was a resident of
Pilot Rock.
Surviving him are his wife,
Lulu S. of Pilot Rock, a son,
Vivian Neil of Anaheim, Calif.,
a brother, Gerald of Raytown,
Mo., a sister, Iona E. Gilbreath of
Dayton, Wn., and three grand
children. Mrs. Amanda Duvall, sister
to Mrs. White, flew home from
her visit in the east to attend
the services.

club met at the home of Mrs.
Florence McMillan last Thurs
day afternoon. The card parties
for the fall were discussed and
plans were made to start them
the first Saturday in October.
Serving on this committee are
Bernice Wihlon, Merle Cornel
ison, and LaVerne Henderson.
Plans were also discussed con
cerning the annual turkey din
ner, which is to be the first
Saturday in November. Named
to this committee were Delpha
Jones, Hilda Yocom and Bertha
Hunt.

Vacation Trip Takes
Couples to Alaska
Returning Sunday from an en
joyable vacation trip into Can
ada and Alaska were Mf. and
Mrs. Don Heliker, lone, and Mr.
and Mrs. John Graves of Hard
man. Traveling in campers over
the Alcan highway, they cover
ed a total of 7,588 miles on the
month's trip, of which 3,500
miles was on graveled roads.
They traveled north by way
of Dawson City, as far nortii
as Fairbanks, enjoying Mt. Mc
Kinley National Park, Anchor
age, Glacier, and returning over
the southern route from White
horse, through Elherta and Glac
ier National Park. In Valdez they

Van Winkle are spending a few
days at Rittei Hot Springs.
Miss Deanna Hays and house
guest, Miss Pat Cordruna of Cor
Vallis, visited last week-end
with Miss Hays' grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Larl Warner.
Friday night dinner guests at
the Earl Soward home were the
parents of Mrs. Marvin Soward,
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Johnson
of Wichita, Kans. They had been
on a business trip to Canada
and came through Eastern Ore
gon to enjoy the Pendleton
Round-Up and to visit the Sow
ards. Rev. Earl Soward is going to
fill the pulpit at the Lexington
Christian church for several
weeks, until a new minister ar
rives. The church would like
any calls going to the parson
age to be transferred to 989-8410,
the Soward residence.
Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Jones and
son Kenneth were overnight
guests of the Edward Hudson
family at Fox, and spent Satur
day visiting the "so-called"
Ghost Towns of Eastern Ore
gon, Whitney, Austin, Granite
and Sumpter, returning on Sun
day. Mrs. Dean Hunt and daugh
ter Jeannine and Mr.t Oliver
Creswlrk of Heppner were Walla
Walla visitors one day last week.
Guests Sunday at the Charles
Colley home were Mr. and Mrs.
Guy bhafer of Hermiston.

nette) lluddleston, daughter of
Frank Turner. Making the trip
purely for pleasure and sight
seeing, they found little time
for hunting or fishing, but hope
to return at another time for
these.

Huddleston came Tuesday for a
two weeks visit with her father,
Frank Turner. She came by jet
from her home in Valdez, Alaska.
Mickey and Lynn Espy re
turned to Moscow, Idaho, last
Thursday after visiting with the
Kenneth Cutsforth family for the
past month. While here they vis
ited also at Seaside, Portland
and at Mary Hill. The children
were taken home by Orville
Cutsforth in his airplane and
Mrs. Ken Cutsforth also made
the trip.
