Kinzua Enrolls
Grade Students

KINZUA The Kinzua grade
school started the fall terni Mon
day, September 9, with 107 stu
dents enrolled.
Mrs. Wilma Thompson has the
first grade, Mrs. Connie Spivey
the second, Mrs. Lucy Plank the
third, Grayson Gerard the fourth,
Mrs. Ruth Vreeland the fifth
and half the sixth, Milt Boring
half the sixth and the seventh,
and Robert V. Davis the eighth.
Mr. Davis is the principal of
the school and Mrs. LaVina Con
ner is the school secretary. Milt
Boring will be the athletic coach
and Mrs. Spivey will have the
girls' P. E. class. There will be
no enrichment program this
year.
The Kinzua Women's club had
its regular meeting Thursday
afternoon at the kitchen, start'
ing the afternoon off with a pot
luck luncheon. Afterwards a
short business meeting was held
and then games were played for
traveling prizes.

Young Golfers Get Awards
On Friday night, September
6, the second annual awards
party for the young members of
the Kinzua Golf club was held at
the clubhouse. Prime objective
of the evening was the award
ing of trophies to the winners
of the various divisions in the re
cent young peoples tournament
In which 31 future golfers par
ticipated. A fine "pizza" dinner
was prepared and served by iiar
lan Schroeder, Vernon Miller and
Jim Walket after which the bai
ance of the evening was spent
in Bingo and dancing. An added
highlight was the cutting ana
eating of a huge cake, donated
by Quentin Viegas honoring the
young divoteers.
Awards were presented to:

nell with runner-up, Kent Bell.
Girls' champion, Verla Conner
with runner-up, Alana Gubin;
Girls First Flight, Shellie Guinn
with runner-up, Merrill Huck;
Boys' Champion, John Wall with
runner-up, Kevin Bell; First
Flight winner, Richard Boyles
with runner-up, Jerry Luther.
Girls' Junior Champion, Susan
Wright with runner-up, Carol
Nistad: First Flight Winner,
Becky Schroeder with runner-up,
Barbara Misener. Boys' Cham
pion, Ned Nickelson with runner
up, David Lovell; First Flight
Winner, Kenny Wham with
runner-up, Don Nickelson. Seven
PeeWee golfers, all under ten
years of age were each presented
with a golf ball for their at
tendance each Friday during the
summer and their zest for
"swinging" around the course.
Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Fletcher
and son Verlin of Wallowa spent
the week-end here visiting with
Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Hastings
and other relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Samples
and granddaughter of Central
Point spent several days here
this past week vlsting with Mr.
and Mrs. O. L. Adams and fam
ily. Mr. and Mrs. Otis Hugabloom
of McPherson, Kansas, spent
Monday and Tuesday here with
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Oyler. When
they left Tuesday for home they
were accompanied by Mrs. Oy
ler who will make an indefinite
visit.
Mrs. Mark Jellick and children
Dennis and Kathy were in Con
don Friday afternon for dental
care.
Mr. and Mrs. Wade Weather
man and family of Westfir spent
several days last week visiting
friends here. This was their va
cation and they were camping
out until they got rained out
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Woods
and Max spent Saturday at Pen
dleton attending the Kound-Up.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayland Hyatt
and daughter Thersea were in
John Day Saturday having den
tal work done.

went to Hermiston Friday even
ing to spend the week-end with

here Monday.
