Irrigon Families Cover Wide Areas on Vacations

Bent ley have returned l Irri
Kon after vacationing during tlie
month of July. They s)ent the
Fourth of July holidays at Couer
d' Aleno Lake in Idaho and from
there they drove to Sheridan,
Wyo., where they spent three
days with Bentley's brother-in-law
and sister, Mr. and Mrs.
George Welir. In Moran, Wyo.,
tliey visited Bentley's sisjter, Mrs
Billie Braman, Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Bra man and Mr. and Mrs. Ked
l'etorson. Brntleys toured Yellow
stone National l'ark, the Tetons
and drove to Aivo, Idaho, where
they visited Mr. and Mrs. Uoyal
Stanton. They came heme via
Boise, arriving in Irrigon July
23.
They left the next day, along
Willi Mr. and Mrs. George Uussell
and son Gunge of V a Id port, for
Lostine, where they camped and
fished at the Lostine Kiver.
George Hussell. a graduate of
Irrigon High school, is presently
the music teacher for the Wald
port Junior High and High
school. While Bent leys were
away, they also visited Mr. and
Mrs. 1'aul York and baby daugh
ter Jane of Newport. York form
erly taught school in Irrigon. At
Dee Lake, Bent leys visited with
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Filley and
family, and Mrs. Charles Graham.
Mr. and Mrs. Warren McCoy,
Susan, Mike and Debbie return
ed to Irrigon Monday evening
after vacationing 10 days at
Bellinghnm, Seaside, Winchester
Bay, Drain and Vancouver, Wn.
While in liellingham, they spent
five days with Mrs. McCoy's
brother-in-law and sister, Mr.
and Mrs. Wlnton Wefer and fam
ily. From there, they drove
down the coast to Seaside, and
spent two nights at Winchester
Bay, where McCoy and Mike
went (leep-st'a fishing. At Drain,
the McCoys visited Mr. and Mrs.
Karl Leach and family, and they
stayed overnight with Mr. and
Mrs. liussell McCoy of Van
couver, Wn., Sunday night.
Mrs. Karl lsom and Donna at
tended a bridal shower for Miss
Nina Burns of Hermiston Thurs
day evening. The shower was
hfld at the home of Mrs. Ber
nard Matthews.

Ronnie and Vickie spent Thurs
day through Sunday visiting
Mrs. Cayman's mother, Mrs.
Nina Piatt, and a sister and
brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Kinglii and family of Clarks
ton, Wn. From Clarkston, the
Caymans drove to Kamiah, Ida.,
where they visited Mr. and Mrs,
Orville Martin and family. Mrs.
Cayman and Mrs. Martin are
sisters.
Olmscheids Return Home
Mr. and Mrs. Don Olmscheid
returned to Irrigon Monday
morning after spending a month
in Corpus Christi, Tex., visiting
Mrs. Olmseheid's folks, Mr. and
Mrs. K. V. Johnson, and other
relatives there. While in Texas,
Olmscheids visited Padre Is
lands on the1 Gulf of Mexico and
went swimming.
Mr. anil Mrs. Karl lsom and
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Craybeal spent
the week-end in Drain, where
they stayed with Mrs. Isom's
brother and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Karl Leach and children.
While there, they went deep
sea fishing on Winchester Bay.
On the way home, they visited
with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Allen and
family, of Salem. They arrived
home Sunday evening.
Tommy St i wart spent Monday
through Thursday visiting his
aunt', Mrs. Doris Cou rtne y,
Danni and Larry, and his grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd
Boeder and Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Stewart, all of LaGrande.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Stephens
rode to Portland with their son
and daughter-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Clark Stephens, Alan and
Debra of Umatilla Tuesday. They
! stayed overnight with Mr. and
Mrs. Guy Parke and family and
also visited with Mr. and Mrs.
Joe Stephens and family, return
ing to Irrigon the next day.
Coleman's Mother Dies
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Coleman
were called to Ogden, Utah by
the ds ath of Coleman's mother,
Mrs. Doll Coleman, who died in
Ogden July 25. Funeral services
were held Sunday afternoon,
July 2S. Colemans returned to
Irrigon the following Wednes
day. Mr. ami Mrs. Vernon Stewart,
Sharon and Tommy spent the
week-end in Poriland visiting
Mrs. Stewart's brother and sister-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Duane
Keeder. and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest
Stewart.
Lexie Keeney of Condon Is
spending two weeks here with
his aunt, Mrs. Sam Snyder. Mrs.
Alice Keeney of Condon spent
the week-end here with her son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Sam Snyder.
Mr. and Mrs, Howard Fegert
visited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Con
way and Dick of The Dalles over
the week-end.
Mr. and Mrs. Chester Wilson,
Jim, Lonnie and their daughter
Carmine, who is visiting with
them, drove to Lost Lake Wed
nesday, and were joined there
by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bart
lett, Stovie and Cynthia and
Bartlett's mother, Mrs. Anne
Woathorford, all of Seattle.
While there, they picked huckle
berries, swam and fished, return
ing to their homes Saturday
evening.
Tom Snyder has taken over
the management of the Chevron
Service Station.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Power of
Hermiston were guests at the
Revs Morgan residence Sunday
evening.
The Baptist church held a pic
nic on the school lawn preceding
their Sunday evening service.
Mr. and Mrs. Obie Bankhead
and Susan and Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Grunert, Renae, Connie
and Walter spent Tuesday fish
ing on the North fork "of the
John Day River.
Mrs. Myrtle Markham and
Sheryl Partlow returned to Irri
gon Saturday afternoon after
spending 2,j weeks in West
minster, Calif., visiting Mrs.
Mar k h a in ' s son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gene
Berg and Bonny. While there,
they went to Disney Land,
Knotts Berry Farm. Marine Land,
and visited former Irrigon res
idents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Want
land, former pastor of the Irri
gon Assembly of God Church
anil Mr. and Mrs. J. 0,. Tavlor,
parents of Mrs. Wantland, Mr.
and Mrs. Darrel Richards and
Julia Ann, Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Cochran, Bobbie and Ramie.
They also drove to San Diego,
where they stayed with Mrs.
Markhani's nephew's family, Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Markham and
Sharon. From San Diego, the
group drove into Tia Juana,
Mexico and spent the day there.

the lone Community church
social rooms honoring Miss
Christie Vangen of Pasco, Wn.
The rooms were decorated in a
pink and white theme. Assist
ing with the gifts were Miss
Judy Morgan and Mrs. William
Galinas.
Hostesses for the party were
Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn, Mrs. Gar
land Swanson, Mrs. Ed Bristow,
Mrs. Leo Crabtree, Mrs. Kenneth
Smouse, Mrs. Lloyd Morgan,
Mrs. Raymond Lundell, Mrs. Mil
ton Morgan, Mrs. Roy Martin,
and Mrs. Earl McCabe.
Miss Vangen will be married
to Bob Rice, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Lloyd Rice of lone, on August
25 at Pasco.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles O'Connor
and Terri drove to Portland on
Saturday to get their daughter,
Lee, who has been attending
Portland Public schools summer
session for six weeks. They re
turned on Sunday after attend
ing the Morrow county picnic.
Jimmie, Laurie, and Nancy
Leathers of Pendleton are spend
ing some time here visiting with
their father, L. F. Leathers.
Captain Gerry McElligott spent
from Tuesday to Friday here vis
iting his brothers, Richard and
Donald McElligott and families.
He was enroute from Vanden
burg Air Force Base to a new
assignment at Minot, N. D.
Mrs. Tom White and two
daughters are visiting in Port
land with relatives. Their young
son Is staying with the Clarence
Brenners.
Fires Hit Two Ranches
Fires have plagued two lone
farmers this week. Clell Rea had
a fire on his combine and lost
about five acres of barley and
some stubble and pasture. Earl
McCabe had a wheat fire on
Friday, which burned approxi
mately ten acres.
Miss Sue Townsend left Sun
day for Woodland, Calif., on a
vacation. She accompanied Mr.
and Mrs. Leo Likely and iamily,
who have been visiting relatives
in this area and at Yakima for
about a week.
Rebekahs Set Picnic Aug. 11
Kebekah Lodge met at the
home of Mrs. W. C. Crawford on
Thursday evening. Mrs. Omar
Rietmann and Mrs. Harvey Ring
were co-hostesses. The next
meeting will be on August 15 at
the home of Mrs. Rietmann. The
annual Rebekah picnic will be
held on Sunday, August 11, at
the City Park at 12:30. Members
and their families are cordially
invited to attend.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Snider
moved into their new residence
on Sunday. They recently pur
chased the Walter Dobyns home
on Third Street.
Joan Marie and Ricky Doher

Charles Doherty are visiting at
the home of their grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Byron Bradshaw at
Corvallis. Mrs. Bradshaw came
up and got them.

port a very fine time and large

dell and their granddaughters,
Teresa and Tanya Tucker. Mr.
and Mrs. Clell Rea and her
mother, Mrs. Arvilla Swanson
and Mrs. Edith Nichoson went
down Saturday night and visited
relatives and went to the picnic,
coming home Sunday, Johan and
Carl Troedson attended and
stopped off at Carson Springs,
Wn. on the way home. Ed
Buschke and Mr. and Mrs.
Franklin Lindstrom also attend
ed. Mrs. Larry Fletcher and sons
of Portland drove to lone on
Tuesday to get her son, John,
who has been visiting his grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey
Ring.
Mrs. David Baker has had
word that her father, Henry
Gorger, who recently had surgery
is now home from the hospital
and progressing nicely.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Doherty
spent Sunday in Hermiston visit
ing his brother Matt Doherty
and family. Matt is principal of
one of the schools in Hermiston
for the coming year.
Shower Honors Pettyjohn Baby
Mrs. Arthur Crawford was the
recipient of a "Grandmother"
shower on Thursday afternoon
at the home of Mrs. David Baker.
After opening the lovely baby
gifts, Mrs. Crawford forwarded
them to her daughter, Mrs. Her
vel Pettyjohn and son at Yakima.

son, Mrs. Daisy McDaniel and
Raymond Medlock of Heppner,
and Bill Hutchens of Portland
spent the week-end at their
cabin in Burton Valley. On Sun
day they were joined by Mr. and
Mrs. Morgan Medlock, Mr. and
Mrs. Floyd Hutchens and Butch
Sawyer of Heppner.
Mike and Eric Graves spent
last week-end visiting at the
home of their uncle and aunt,
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Carlson and
family in the Valby district near
lone.
Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Emery of
Vancouver, Wn., stopped in
Hardman last Tuesday. They
lived here several years ago
and Mrs. EmeTy will be remem
bered as the former Fannie
Leathers.
Mrs. Cecil McDaniel and child
ren visited her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Emett Davis of Lonerock
last Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Percy Cecil left
last Tuesday for Pillow Point,
Wn., to join Mr. and Mrs. H. C.
Lesley for some fishing and va
cationing. Friends are sorry to hear of
Mrs. Adrian Bechdolt's illness.
She is in St. Vincent's hospital
in Portland and showing steady
improvement.
Alta Stevens returned to her
home last Tuesday after staying
with Sandy Harshman while her
parents, Mr, and Mrs. Everett
Harshman, went to Alaska on a
visit.
Mr. and Mrs. L. II. Robinson
were at their home Sunday night
and were business visitors in
Heppner Monday from their
cattle camp on the Forest Re
serve. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Crewdson
of the Parker Mill area went to
Echo to look after their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim McClintock
and two sons of Corvallis stop
ped in Hardman Sunday to visit
Alta Stevens while on the'ir way
to Heppner to visit Mr. McClin
tock's brother, Gale McClintock
and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Chapel
and daughters, Cassy and Mrs.
Joel Engelman and son Frankie
of lone, left Tuesday for Port
land for dental appointments
and to visit for a few days. Sam
McDaniel is staying at the ranch
while they are gone.
Mrs. Sam McDaniel returned
home Wednesday from cooking
at the Ed Buschke ranch during
harvest.
Adrian Bechdolt returned
home Saturday from Portland
where he had gone to be with
Mrs. Bechdolt.
Friends are sorry to hear of
the illness of Rho Bleakman of
Monument, who is in the hos
pital in Pendleton. Reports indi
cate he is making satisfactory
improvement. The family are
former Hardman residents.
Lanhams Depart
On European Trip
Mr. and Mrs. Conley Lanham
left Portland Wednesday by
Pan-American Airways, bound
for London, England, on the first
leg of their long-planned trip to
Europe. They expect to be gone
five or six months.
From London they will go to
Sweden, then to Copenhagen,
Denmark. Next stop will be in
Stuttgart, Germany, and a tour
of that country after which they
will go to Switzerland and then
to France.
The couple is making the trip
alone and plans to take the time
to see what they want to see
en route. They hope to go to a
French language school in
France for a couple of months
before returning.
Mrs. Lanham is on leave of
absence from the Heppner High
school faculty to make the trip.
Miss Mildred Clowry returned
last week-end from a vacation
trip east where she visited her
sister, Mrs. Marie Lewis in
Cleveland, Ohio, and other rel
atives en route. She made the
trip by train and found the
weather very hot and humid.
She was gone a month from her
work in the office of Dr. A. D.
McMurdo.

with a dinner party planned by
her children. Attending were

Ashley, Kevin, and Jimmie of

Galinas, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Crab
tree and Scott and Mr. Crabtree.
Mr. and Mrs. William Galinas
are now making their residence
in lone after having lived in
Condon the past few months.

Saturday for a visit with her

sen and other relatives. They left
on Tuesday taking Mrs. Lar
son's niece, Susan Jane Jepsen,
home with them for a two week
vacation.

and Jim Jacobs left on Sunday
for a week at junior high camp
at Camp Adams near Mollala.
Mrs. Walter Jacobs and son,

Family Reunion

their annual reunion at Sorossis
Park in The Dalles on Sunday.

surgery on Tuesday morning.

Bill Pettyjohn and two friends
visited here over the week-end
from their station with the U. S.
Coast Guard in Seattle. Bill re
turned Monday to his home in
Arlington following his dis
charge after four years in the
Coast Guard.
