changed their marriage vows at
an impressive summer ceremony
Saturday, June 15 at 2:00 p.m.,
at Hope L,utneran church.
The double ring ceremony was
performed by the Rev. Kenneth
Robinson before an altar decor
ated with baskets of pink and
white gladioli and baby breath,
banked by white tapers in
candelabra. Pews were marked
with pink and white ribbon
bows.

by her parents, and escorted to
the altar by her father, was love
ly in a white brocade satin
gown fashioned with long point
ed sleeves, Sabrina neckline and
bouffant skirt styled with bustle
effect fullness in the back. A
seed pearl tiara crown held in
place a finger tip veil of illusion
net. She wore a pearl necklace
and, for the traditional borrowed
and blue, a blue garter. She
carried a bridal cascade of white
roses and stephanotis.
Matron of honor was Mrs. Du-
ane Gentry, sister of the groom,
of Milton-Freewater. Bridesmaids
were Misses Sandi Davis of Irri
gon, and Judy Schmidt, sister
of the bride. The attendants wore
matching dresses of pink bro
cade with bell-shaped skirts,
pink ring hats of brocade with
short net veils trimmed with
simulated pearls, white gloves
and shoes and carried pink car
nation and rosebud bouquets
with trailing pink streamers.
Lighting the candles were
Deborah Gentry, niece of the
groom, dressed in pink polished
cotton jacket dress with pink
net headdress, pink carnation
wristlet and white accessories,
and Bobby Peck, in dark pants
and white jacket with pink car
nation boutonniere.
Flower girl was Denise Gentry,
niece of the groom, wearing
pink nylon with white wide
brimmed hat, and carrying a
nosegay of pink carnations sur
rounded by rosebuds.
Dave Schmidt, brother cf the
bride, attended as ring bearer,
wearing a white suit with pink
boutonniere, and carrying a
white satin and lace ring pil
low. Organist was Mrs. Gerald
Jonasson, who also accompanied
Mr. Creswick, father of the
groom, when he sang the num
bers, "Wedding Prayer" and "O
Perfect Love."

groom of Milton-Freewater. All
of the groom's attendants wore
pink carnation boutonniers. The
groom wore a white rosebud from
the bride's bouquet.
For her daughter's wedding,
Mrs. Schmidt chose a rose ma
telasse dress with white acces
sories, and a white symbidium
orchid corsage.
Mrs. Creswick, mother of the
groom wore a blue silk shantung
with white accessories, and a
white symbidium orchid cor
sage. The couple was greeted by
their many friends at a wedding
reception in the church basement
rooms. Decorations carried out
the pink and white color theme
used throughout the service with
other accents on "wedding bells."
Centering the bride's table was
a six-ticred wedding cake, top
ped with miniature wedding
bells.
Pouring were Mrs. Leslie Bel
den, aunt of the bride, and Mrs.
Paul Jones. Serving the cake was
Mrs. Nels Anderson. Mrs. Anita
Stockard attended the gift table.

accessories and white rosebud
corsage. They took a short wed
ding trip to Washington.
Both young people1 attended
schools in Heppner. graduating
with the class of 1961. The bride
completed her training in Sec
retarial Science at Eastern Ore
gon College of Education, La
Grande, this spring. They will
make their home in Pasco, Wn.,
in the fall, where the groom will
continue his education at Colum
bia Basin College. During the
summer months they are em
ployed by the forest Service at
Tamarack Lookout tower about
60 miles from Heppner.

SPEAKING OF vacations, the R.
G. Watkins went to the Van
couver, B. C, area and said it
was beautiful. Flossie said the
travel folder pictures of Canada
are true. It really is a beautiful
country! The 4-H kids vacation
ed by attending the camp at
Cutsforth park and what a time
they had. They were all plenty
tired when they got home and
said the time really flew by.
The nights were a little chilly.
In fact, two boys lammed into
a single-size sleeping bag! How?

CATCHING UP on the Friday
afternon pinochle club news:
All of the gals were present for
play on June 29 at the home of
Doris Watkins. Millie Evans won
high; Mary Harris, low; Carrie
Becket and Hannah Anderson
ended winning the pinochle.
Others playing were Beulah
Mankin, Gladys Becket, Pearl
Wright. The next Friday, Janina
Johnson and Ann Fehmerling
filled in for Dons and Millie
Hannah won high for the after
noon, Pearl was low, and Ann
and Hannah won the pinochle.
Looks as though Hannah had
two good days of pinochle!

THE ELKS monthly duplicate
bridge unit party was changed
this month from the first Sunday
afternoon to the first Tuesday
at 8 p.m. in the lodge hall. It
was held last Tuesday with 7'2
tables in play. Bobbe Driscoll
and Daisy Collins were high
north -south; Fay Ferguson and
Hazel Hamlin were second: and
Terry and Karen Thompson
were third. Harlan McCurdy. Jr,
and LaVerne Van Marter were
high east-west, Grace Nickerson
and Rita Wolff were second and

HERE ARE a few tips to pass
along: Ever tried peeling a
hot potato? To solve the prob
lem, first score the raw potato
around the center, then boil in
salted water until done, spear
each spud with a fork in the
score mark, and start peeling
with a knife! Want to make
a colored layer gelatin salad?
Pour mixed gelatin in mold or
pan up to desired depth, chill
until almost firm, add another
layer of different color, chill as
before, and add as many layers
as you wish. It makes a very
colorful dish and you may add
fruit in each layer as you de
sire. For home-made whole ker
nel creamed corn: cut corn from
cob, holding knife at easy angle
and scrape cob; put 2 table
spoons butter or margarine in
skillet, IV2 cups cut corn about
5 ears), Va cup light cream, I
tablespoon sugar, 2 teaspoon

man) was honored with a mis
cellaneous bridal shower Wed
nesday. June 26, at the Hope
Lutheran church. She is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John
Hartman, Toledo, former Hepp
ner residents, and was married
June 30.
Lovely spring flowers were ar
ranged about the rooms by Mrs.
G. Hermann, lone, who furnished
the flowers from her garden. The
tables were covered with white
lace cloths with green under
neath centered with white can
dles and flowers. Pouring were
Mrs. Knerr's mother, Mrs. Hart
man, and her grandmother, Mrs.
Tillie Ranch. Coffee, punch, and
home made cookies were served
to about 30 friends and relatives.
Marlene Fctsch, cousin of the
bride, assisted with the opening
of the gifts. Hostesses for the
occasion were Mrs. Elmer
Schmidt, Mrs. Bob Flatt, Mrs.
Irvin Rauch, Mrs. Gene Maieske,

Going Away Party
Honors Velma Glass
Velma Glass, Morrow County
health nurse for the past eight
years, was honored with a going
away party at the Methodist
church Friday evening.
Hostesses for the occasion were
Mrs. Mary Bryant, Mrs. Carl Mc
Daniel, Mrs. Ken Batty, and Mrs.
J. W. Farra. They served cookies,
coffee, and punch to 25 guests
present to say "goodby" to Mrs.
Glass. She was presented a
money box of silver which had
been cleverly decorated as a
small silverware chest by Mrs.
Farra. Pouring were Mrs. Gene
Pierce and Mrs. Mel Dixon.
Laura Lee Sumner entertained
the group with a soxophone solo
accompanied at the piano by
Mrs. Ray Williamson, This was
followed by group singing.
Lovely spring roses and daisies
were arranged about the room.
Oness V. Gibson of Yakima,
Wn., has been spending the past
week In Heppner with his cousin,
Mrs. Amanda Duvall. He return
ed to his home Tuesday. They
spent July 4th at Ukiah at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd
Waid, where 16 relatives were
gathered. Mr. Waid is a nephew
of Mrs. Duvall.

A drivers license examiner will
be on duty in Heppner Tuesday,
July 23, at the courthouse be

Department of Motor Vehicles
of Oregon. Persons wishing orig
inal licenses or permits to drive
are asked to file applications
well ahead of the scheduled
closing hour in order to assure
