Novel 'Spring
Swing' Concert

IRRIGON A large group of
Irrigon and Boardman residents
attended the "Spring Swing"
band concert presented by the
Music Department of Riverside
High school, under the direction
of Al Reeves. The concert open
ed with "A Concert Digest,"
which was a musical satire, nar
rated by Terry McCoy, followed
by "The Sound of Music," "Tea
for Two" and "Exodus" conduc
ted by student directors Eileen
Ely, Janice Parker and Sharon
Franke, respectively.
Following was "The Instant
Conductor" conducted by Ron
Daniels, principal of Riverside.
Next was "Have Tuba, Will
Oom-pah" conducted by Eileen
Ely. During the intermission,
special music was provided by
a German band composed of
Ken Taft, Perry Morgan, Gene
Morrison, band directors at Uma
tilla, Echo and Hermiston Jr.
High respectively, Fred Car
michael and Matt Svetich from
the Pendleton Music House.
Chairs were arranged around
individual card tables for the
concert, providing an informal
atmosphere, and during the
concert refreshments of cookies,
punch and coffee, provided by
the band, were served by the
7th and 8th grade students of
A. C. Houghton.
School Picnic Sunday
The annual uommunny
school picnic sponsored by the
PTA will be held on the A. C.
Houghton school grounds Sun
day afternoon, May 26, at 2:00
p.m. Entertainment will follow
the potluck meal.

a Field Trip Wednesday after
noon, to study Wildlife Conser
vation. They visited a bird farm
near Bucks Corner, ana saw now
