Council Appoints Members;
May Budget Meeting Date Set

budget meeting for the city of
Boardman will be held May 14
at the city hall. At the regular
monthly meeting of the city
council last week the following
were appointed to serve on the
ouaget committee: Mrs. Zearl
Gillespie, Ronald Daniels, Mrs.
Ronald Black and Mrs. Arthur
Allen. Others on the committee
are Wally Hendrix and Mrs.
Florence Root. Alternates are El
don Shannon, James Harper and
Mrs. Ernest Peck. Mrs. Dave
Mittelsdorf will be budget clerk.
Preceding the budget meeting
there will be a combined meet
ing of the city council and the
city planning commission. M. D.
Valkenburgh, The Dalles attorn
ey, will be present to discuss
city charter amendments. The
meeting will convene at 7 p.m.
Church Has Holy Land Speaker
Mrs. Odessa K. Neild, graduate
of the Multnomah School of the
Bible, Portland, was guest
speaker at the Boardman Com
munity church Sunday at the
morning service, and showed
slide pictures of the Holy Land
at the evening service. Mrs.
Neild was dressed in an auth
entic Bethlehem woman's cos
tume, and explained the mean
ing of it. Larry Totton and Dean
Dodson, Multnomah students, ac
companied her. Totton spoke to
the Soul-winner's class in the
evening, and Dodson sang two
solos at ths evening service.
The senior class of Riverside
High school presented two one
act comedy plays in the gym
nasium Friday night. The cast
of "Potluck" was as follows:

Al Reeves, Riverside High
school band instructor, took 22
members of the senior high band
to the Northern Eastern Oregon
district 6 band contest at La
Grande Saturday. They made a
No. 2 rating, which is excellent.

were: "Port 25 March," "Coeur
d' Alene" and "Balladair."
Party Honors Mrs. Shattuck
The Ladies Aid Society of
Community church held a fare
well party at the church Wed
nesday afternoon of last week
in honor of Mrs. Lowell Shat-
tuck, past president, who recent
ly moved to Hermiston. She was
presented with a gift. Mrs. Seth
Russell was winner of an Easter
egg hunt. Hostesses were Mrs,
Emery Lyons, Mrs. Frank Mar-
low and Mrs. Claud Coats.
Mrs. Herman Burg reported on
the Village Missions conference
she attended at Touchet, Wn. the
first of the week.

conference at Touchet, Wn. the

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry NewKirK
of Ocean Lake were week-end
visitors at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Briggs. They are mov
ing to Umatilla to make tneir
home.
A trrouD of ladies went to
Hermiston one day last week to
honor Mrs. Lowell Shattuck on
the occasion of her birthday. In
the erouD were Mrs. Claud Coats,
Mrs. Zearl Gillespie, Mrs. Glen
Carpenter, Mrs. Nathan Thorpe,
Mrs. Cecil Hamilton and Mrs.
Frank Marlow.
The Home Extension Unit will
meet April 16 at the grange hall
with Esther Kirmis, county ex
tension agent, Heppner, in
charge. Subject will be "Care
of sewing machines."
Mrs. Nathan Thorpe will have
luncheon tickets there for sale
to the annual Homemaker Fes
tival at Heppner in May. Gifts
for the state hospital are to be
brought to the meeting this time.
Members of the Boardman
Garden club will go to Pendle
ton April 15 to have a potluck
dinner at the home of Mrs. Nate
Macomber, former club member.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gronquist.
Mrs. Frank Marlow spent the
week-end in Walla Walla, Wn.
