By JO PETTYJOHN
THE MEN'S bowling teams were

my Miller (Elks) and Art Wat
kins (Elks) won third place in
the doubles. Vic Groshens and
Vern Viall (Elks) were fourth
in the doubles. Vic won second
in singles with a 602. The Elks
won second place in team bow

so well in the tournament was
that he favored his back and
didn't worry about bowling! Just

about 88 keys or was it pins??
And Wess Marlatt had a little
trouble with the last pin? Lex

a second-half slump, lost four to
Bricks Supply Monday night.
Vernon Munkers, Co-op, had a
high series of 504 and Johnny
Ledbetter had a high game of
192. Go get them next week!

MCGG MOVED into second spot
after taking three from Echo
Hotel last week while first place
Eagle Valley took three from
second place Sheets to move
them into third spot. Lois Hunt
for MCGG topped the scoring
with a 434 series and high game
of 157. Padberg Machinery and
Turner, Van Marter and Bryant
tangled last week and each took
two games. Padberg is tied with
Burns for fourth and Turner is
in sixth place. Iris Campbell,
Padberg, had high series over all
of the Sparetimers last week
with a 511 and also had high of
i2X and high game of 158. Oh,
yes, nearly forgot, Lois got a
6-7-10 split to win a handful of
candy bars for husband, Dean,
who chauffeured the MCGG team
to Echo. And this was mighty
welcome cause there was a flat
tire on the way over! Not driv
ing, but chaperoning the Pad
berg gals was Johnny Ledbetter.
Well, the league play is not over
with, yet, and after this week,
orher changes will be made in
Ihf standings.
JOHN PORTER, big tackle for
the Heppner Mustang football
team, has been named to the
East team for the Shrine All
Star game to be played in
Pendleton in August. He was
the only Mustang to be chosen,
but Ron Crabtree, lone quarter
back, is an alternate.

Porter Chosen
For Shrine Squad
John Porter, senior at Heppner
High school, has been chosen as
a member of the Shrine All-Star
team for the East and will play
in the game at the Round-UD
Grounds, Pendleton, August 24,
it is announced.
The 190 lb. tackle whose play
was outstanding through the
season is the only Mustang to be
chosen for the squad, although
soveral others were nominated.
Porter was particularly out
standing on defensive and was a
big factor in the Mustang's
achieving one of their best rec
ords on the gridiron in years.
Ron Crabtree of lone was nam
ed as an alternate on the squad.
He played out of his regular po
sition at quarterback last year
for the good of the team al
though he was an all-star end
tht year before. Crabtree had
been named to the Shrine team
last year, but the committee
later discovered that he was only
a junior at that time and wus
not eligible.
