church will have Student Recog
nition Sunday. The college stu
dents, returning to lone for
Christmas vacation, will conduct
the service of worship. A coffee
hour will follow.

Final Sign-up For Rifle Club
There will be a meeting of the
4-H Rifle club on Saturday, De
cember 22, at 2 p.m. in the li
brarv of the lone High school
Mr. Pete Cannon, leader of the
club, invites all boys between
the ages of 11 and 17 who are
interested in joining a rifle club
lo attend this meeting, as it will
be the final sign-up for this
year.

Lutherans Have
Christmas Service
Sunday School Christmas ser

church was held Sunday even
ing, December 16, at 7 p.m. The
beautiful, age-old story of
Christmas was presented in song,
verso, and narration by the
children-of the community.
There were 31 children taking
part in the manger scene, child
ren s choir, and various other
ways. Chervle Lundell played all
the music, and the costume
changes and cues were attend
ed to by the teachers: Donna
Bergstrorh, Jane Rawlins, Rikka
Tews, Martha Peterson, Marilyn
Bergstrom, Betty Carlson, and
Donna Peterson. Barbara Peter
son was in charge or retresn-
ments, which consisted of fav
orite Christmas cookoies, tea and
coffee. Bags of candy were given
to the children as they lelt.
Eastern Star district meeting
was held in the Masonic hall
at lone December 11. It was a
joint meeting of the Locust
Chapter of lone and Ruth Chap
ter of HepDner, in honor of the
official visit of the Worthy Grand
MatronMrs. Yeager. Other vis
ltors were Mary Lindsay, mem
ber of the Home Endowment

There was a no-host dinner pre
ceding the meeting, served by
the Maranatha Club, and the
tables were decorated in the
Christmas theme.
Topic Club met Friday, De
cember 14, at the home of Mrs
Rod MacKenzie with Mrs. Paul
lews and Mrs. Omar Rietmann
co-hostesses. Mrs. Ernie Chris.
topherson, guest, joined with the
group in their Christmas party.
Each person brought a hand
made gift to exchange and a
holiday dessert and recipes for
future use.

Bakers Honored on Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baker were
honored on their 45th wedding
anniversary witn a dinner in
the banquet room above Stef
ani's on Sunday, December 16.
All of their children were present.
These included Mr. and Mrs.
Ivan Orton and children of Ti
gard, Mr. and Mrs. David Baker
and family of lone, Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Baker and family of
Heppner and Mrs. Cassidy and
children of Pendleton. Mr. Lyons
from Hermiston took family pic
tures. They received a silver tea
set as a gift. Mr. Baker showed
pictures of his and Mrs. Baker's
trip around the world.
Maranathas Serve Dinners
Maranatha Club served two
dinners the second wppk in Dr.
cember. One was for the Eastern
Star, December 11. Mrs. Garry
Tullis and Mrs. Marion Palmer
decorated the tables. Mrs. Fred
Martin, Mrs. Clell Rea, Mrs. Rod
MacKenzie, and Mrs. Mattie Rea
served. Others helping were Mrs.
Oscar Lundell, Mrs. Wate Craw
ford and Mrs. Mary Swanson.

CHRISTMAS
Many Maranathas provided the
food. On December 12 the Mar
anathas took charge of the din
ner served to the Rietmann fam
ily who gathered to attend Ed
Rietmann's funeral. Many
friends of the family contrib
uted to the meal.
The second of twin quilted
coverlets was completed Decem
ber 17 at the homo of Charlene
MacKenzie. The large patchwork
quilts were tied by Mrs. Anna
Lindstrom, Mrs. Oscar Lundell,
Mrs. Carl Bergstrom, Mrs. Mary
Swanson, Mrs. Wate Crawford,
Mrs. Dale Ray and Mrs. Rod Mac
Kenzie is very appreciative of the
time spent on the quilts for her
daughter's bedroom.
