Ski Club Feats Seen
At Gilliam County Fair

sen, performed at the Gilliam
: county fair at Condon on Sun
day. The boys performed in the
usual high, thrilling manner.
Feats were performed that show
skill through constant practice.
The crowd thrilled at the back
flips, twists and unusual acts
which these boys have worked
out. They will perform at Hat
Rock festivities . on Labor Day,
September 3.
Miss Jean Gray, John Jepsen,
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Holtz and
Kathy, and Carol and Evelyn
Jepsen were recent guests at a
dinner party at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Jepsen.
Cathy Rea and Mrs. Edith
Nickerson returned to Portland
with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lundell.
Mrs. Nickerson will visit with
her daughter, Alice, and Cathy
will do shopping for school.
Mrs. Bob Rietmann entertain
ed at a birthday party on August
22 in honor of her son, John.
Guests present for the noon
barbecue were Mark and Brian
Rietmann, John and Dale Hed
man, Billy Jepsen, Doug Barak,
Eddie Winkleman, Dickie Snider,
Joe Rietmann and Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Rietmann and Bob Rietmann.
The group enjoyed an afternoon
of swimming following the cook
out. Visit Relatives In Dallas
Mrs. Fredrick Martin and
daughter Jean motored to Dallas
following their week at Camp
Adams as counsellors for the
junior group, to visit her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Horton. Ac
companying the Martins was
Iheanyi Anyaso, a Nigerian for
eign student who was also at
Camp Adams. They met Melvin
and Ralph Martin who were also
visiting with the Hor tons.
Anyaso, as he would like to be
known, was an overnight house
guest at the Horton home. He
has been attending school in
Mississippi.
Paula and Bick Biggs of Ore
gon City were recent guests at
the Fredrick Martin home. They
accompanied Mr. and Mrs.
Martin and family to Seattle
where they spent a few days
at the World's Fair. They joined
their parents while the Martins
continued on to visit in Kirk
land, Puyallup, Tacoma, and
went sightseeing.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lundell
were in lone visiting with their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest
Lundell and Mrs. Arvilla Swan
son over the week-end.

Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Berl
Akers and Bonnie, Mr. and Mrs.
Harold Holtz, Mr. and Mrs. Mark
ham Baker, Mardine and Don
Larson.
Mrs. Lewis Ball, Mrs. Donald
Ball and Mrs. Ray Barnett were
guests from lone at a bridal
shower recently held at the Fern
Graves home in Heppner for
Marie Pettyjohn, bride of Wayne
Ball.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hope and
three daughters of Eugene were
visiting several days last week
with her brother and family, Mr.
and Mrs. Louis Carlson.
Attending the Camp Holden
Village at Lake Chelan, Wn
over the week-end, sponsored by
the Lutheran church, were Mr.
and Mrs. Don Peterson and fam
ily; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Tews and
family; Marilyn and Gerald
Bergstrom; Gerald Peterson and
Rollo Crawford.
Mr. and Mrs. Berl Akers and
Rnnnlo were in The Dalles on
Thursday of last week.

family of Beaverton spent the
week-end with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Lewis Ball. They were
here for the wedding of her
brother Wayne Ball to Marie

of the week, following a trip to
Seattle for the fair. They also
went sightseeing and visiting in
Seattle, Yakima and Tacoma.
They reported weather quite hot
for traveling comfort.

Copt. John Bristow
Wins Air Force Medal
Capt. John L. Bristow, son of
Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Bristow of
lone, of the 4157th Strategic Wing
has been presented a commenda
tion medal by Col. Roger L. How
ard, commander of the Air Force
wing.
The medal is rated 15th of all
Air Force-medals. -
While serving as co-pilot,
KC-135 senior crew member and
a member of the standardization
branch, Clinton Sherman Air
Force Base, Oklahoma, Capt.
Bristow distinguished himself by
meritorious service from March 2,
1959, to May 12, 1962, the citation
reads.
His crew won the Crew of the
Month award in May and Au
gust, 1961. Capt. Bristow is now
stationed at Eielson Air Force
Base, Fairbanks, Alaska, and his
wife, the former Marie Linder of
Hermiston and their two children
Douglas and Linda, are living
there.

of Pacific Palisades, Calif, visited
last week with his brother and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Hershall
Townsend.
Sue Townsend spent a few
days at the home of her aunt,
Mrs. Glenn Irby during the Mor
row County Fair.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Grassl of
Walla Walla spent the week
end with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil
Thorne. Mrs. Thorne and Mrs.
Grass! are sisters.
Helen Salter of Richmond,
Calif., is visiting this week with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh
Salter. She returned to lone with
Mrs. Harold Snider and Dickie,
who had motored to Portland
with friends to bring home the
Salter's car.
The lone Legion Auxiliary will
meet on September 4 for an
afternoon meeting at 2:00 p.m.
at the Legion hall.
Jean Marie and Ricky Doherty
have returned home from Albany
following a two-weeks visit with
their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Byron Bradshaw.
