though the winners stayed pretty

CARRIE BECKET continued her
winning ways Friday after
noon when she won high at the
pinochle club. Millie Evans was
hostess at her home. Carrie also
teamed up with Beulah Mankin
to meld 1500 trump, quite a day!

JEAN ANN Turner was surprised
with a birthday dinner party
at her home Saturday evening.
The group gathered at the Fritz
Cutsforth home before surprising
her with a potluck dinner. They
later went to Stefani's for an
evening of dancing. Joining in on
the party were the Kenny Cuts
forths, Pat Cutsforths, Jerry
Doughertys, Larry Campbells,
and Fritz Cutsforths.
A CHARITY bridge party, held
Sunday afternoon at the Hepp
ner grade school multipurpose
room, drew a crowd of nine
tables from Pendleton, Hermis
ton, Walla Walla, and other
neighboring towns. Mrs. Rogers
and Mrs. Robinson. Pendleton,
won high north-south; Mr. and
Mrs. Everett Edmiston, Hermis-
ton, were second; and two
couples were tied for third, La
Verne Van Marter and Daisy Col
lins, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Hampston, Pendleton. Mrs. W.
P. Kilkenny and Mrs. Elsie Dick
son, Pendleton, were high east
west; Gordon and Phyllis Hut-
chens, second; and another tie
for third was between Mr. and
Mrs. Gus Hartzheim, Hermiston

Everyone says it is fabulous

for hours! Inez Erwin spoke
about the science building dis
play, Rose Marie Stroeber said
she thought of us when she saw
the round house on display built
by the plywood association. All
the rooms were round. Say, that
might be an idea, no corners to
clean! ! Also Jeanne Lovgren
said she saw six families from
our community while at the fair.

Oatmeal Cake
Pour ltt cups boiling water
over 1 cup quick cooking oat
meal and V pound butter or
margarine, let stand for 20
minutes and add:
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
9 ooaa hpatpn
Yi cup raisins (soaked and drain
ed) sift together and add:
cups flour j
1 t soda
1 t cinnamon
t baking powder
Beat mixture until smooth,
bake in 8x12 loaf pan or 2 layer
cake pans, 350 degrees, 35
minutes.
Cake Topping
1 cup sugar
1 cup shredded coconut
V pound butter or margarine
1 egg . ...
Yd cup evaported milK
1 t vanilla
Yt cup chopped nut meats
Mix all ingredients together
except vanilla and nut meats,
and bring to a boil, stirring con
stantly, then cook slowly about
3 or 4 minutes. Add vanilla and
nuts and spread over warm cane,
serve cake warm or cold.

formed an escort for the worthy
matron and worthy patron as
they were conducted to their
stations.
As the four leaf clover is the
symbol chosen by Mrs. Lindsay
for her new year, at the close of
the ceremony all present joined
in singing "Ira Looking Over
A Four Leaf Clover," in her honor.
Mrs. Ruth Mason of Willamette
Manor of Portland, grandmother
of the lone Rainbow Assembly
and charter member of Locust
chapter, was present.
Mrs. Alice Jones, worthy mat
ron of Condon chapter, and Mrs.
Doloris Barnett, junior past mat
ron of Locust chapter poured at
the refreshment table after the
installation.

Hold Family Reunion
A reunion of the Emery and
Frances Sperry families was held
Sunday, June 17, when 42 rel
atives and friends gathered at
Hat Rock for an all-day outing
and picnic.
Three direct descendants, Mrs.
Blaine Chapel of Hardman, Mrs.
Anna Harshman and Mrs. Roy
Thomas, both of Walla Walla,
Wn., were present for the occas
ion, as was Mrs. Vera Stevens
and daughter, Mrs. Letha Young
er of Oregon City. Others making
up the group were from Walla
Walla, Pendleton, lone, Lexing
ton, Hardman and Heppner.
The Sperrys homesteaded and
lived many years near Harper's
Mill. They were parents of seven
daughters, and all but one, who
lives In Montana, were present
for the reunion.

riage of Miss Jo Ann Turner,

Gaarsland, lone, to Michael

Marriage vows will be ex
changed in All Saints' Episcopal
church, Heppner, at 11:30 a. m.,
and the couple extends a cordial
invitation to friends and rela
tives to attend.
A lawn reception is planned
at the Gaarsland home for 1:00
p. m. Weather preventing, it will
be held in the dining room of
the lone Legion hall.
