IONE Mrs. Roy Lindstrom
was hostess on Easter Sunday for
a dinner party with guests, Mr,
ana Mrs. Lee Crutcher and fam
lly of Pendleton, Mr. and Mrs,
Warren Crutcher, Gresham, Mrs,
Anna Lindstrom, Mrs. Fannie
Griffith and her immediate fam
ily. Guests later in the evening
included Mr. and Mrs. Franklin
Lindstrom and Mr. and Mrs. Roy
A, Lindstrom and BUI.
Mr. and Mrs. Harland Lundell
Corliss and Curtis of Boise, Idaho
visited Saturday, Sunday and
Monday with his parents, Mr,
and Mrs. Oscar Lundell.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Jepsen en
tertained at an Easter dinner at
their home in honor of Mr. and
Mrs. E. R. Schaffer, Mr. and Mrs

Akers Extend Thanks

The community came forward
with individual and organizat
ional help by sponsoring socials,
such as card parties and food
a es. and climaxed with a com
munitv benefit dance. To date
approximately $525 has been do
nated toward offsetting the med
ical expenses.
Birthday Is Observed
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Helina and
son John of Seattle and Mr. and
Mrs. Warren Crutcher of Gresh
am were here on Saturday to
help Mrs. Anna LJndstrqm cele
brate her birthday. Other guests
included Mr. and Mrs. Oscar
Lundell, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest
Lundell, Mary Swanson, Mr. and
Mrs. Rov W. Lindstrom and fam
ily, Irene Swanson and Albert
Lindstrom.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Leosis of
Wulta 'Walla, Wn were Easter
Sunday visitors at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Elbe Akers. Also
visiting was Mr. Leosis' cousin,
Ham Leosis, and Mr. and Mrs.
James Barnette and family, Les
lie and Danny.

Sunday dinner guests at the

Auxiliary To Sell Wreaths
Auxiliary meeting this month
was held at the home of Mrs.
Cecil Thome with five members
present. Poppy corsages were
made. The auxiliary wishes to
announce that they will make
poppy memorial wreaths on re
quest. Anyone wishing may con
tact Helen McCabe, poppy chair
man, or any auxiliary member.
These wreaths are appropriate
for any grave.
Mrs. Tom White was hostess
for an Easter dinner in honor of
bale and Edvthe White, Mr. and
Airs. Leland Moe of Portland, her Todd, to Kerwin Dauehton at
parents. Mrs. Bessie Creson qf Roseburg. Marilyn, is a student
Hood River and Gordon White, at the University of Oregon and
Kail Padberg; of La Grande Kerwin is a lieutenant in the

Louis Padberg. The two men,
along with Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey
Kincaid, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kin
caid and family of lone and Mr.
and Mrs. George Miller of Cecil
were Easter dinner guests at the
L. E, Roundy home in Kennewick,
Wn on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree
completed moving back to the
ranch this past Saturday,
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin McCabe
of Heppner left their two sons
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs,
Leo Crabtree, while they went
to Spokane for the Easter week
end. Mrs. Blanche Scheelar re
turned with them and will visit
in Heppner with the McCabes
for a few days and will come
to lone to visit with her daugh
ter, Irene Crabtree
Sharon Crabtree spent the
Easter week-end with her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree,
Mr. and Mrs. Crabtree, Ron,
Janet Palmer and Ashley and
Kevin McCabe motored to Port
land on Sunday when Sharon
returned. Also accompanying
them was Elaine Laird or Hepp
ner.
Mr. and Mrs. Alton Yarnell
and Mrs. Kathryn Yarnell spent
Easter week-end with the cut
ford Yarnells. They visited the
Pelton and Round Butte dams
while there.

Recent week-end house guests
of Mr. and Mrs. George Miller
were Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Oswalt
of West Linn.
Mr. and Mrs. George Miller at
tended an "All Rock Hounds
Pow Wow" earlier this month
at Maupin. It was a camp-out
and Mr. and Mrs. Miller took
their trailor and ieep. About 300
rockhound enthusiasts attended.
Auxiliary Meets Tuesday
Beverly Doherty and Rosetta
Palmateer will be the hostesses
on Tuesday, May 1, for Legion
Auxiliary. The meeting is sched
uled for 2:00 p. m. at the Legion
hall. The district president and
the department president will be
present and everyone is urged to
attend to welcome these ladies.
Mr. and Mrs. George Miller
was in Portland last week twice
for dental surgery for Mrs. Miller.
Mrs. Eulenna Corley was host
ess on Easter Sunday for a din
ness in honor of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs, Bill Seehafer of Board-

Duane Essex and family of Sac-

Mayor Charles O'Connor of lone, watches. The company enter
tained mayors of the area and newspaper people at a dinner and
tour to acquaint them with direct distance dialing. The O'Connors
hadn't talked with the Arizona relatives in 15 years and found
them very surprised to get the call. Mrs. O'Connor said that the
direct dialing worked "just fine."

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sherer
were called to Redmond on Wed
nesday of last week due to the
illness of their daughter, Mrs.

tered the hospital on Wednes
day evening giving birth by
caesarean operation on Friday,
morning, April 20 to a baby girl
Kobyn Kay, weighing IV oz.
Both mother and daughter were
improving when the Sherer's re
turned home Sunday.
Ex-Resident Visits
Melvin L. AUyn of Piedmont,
Calif., formerly of Lexington,
came back for an Easter visit
with his mother In Lexington.
He has been In California for
six months and has a position
with Lundell Associates as a
draftsman. Allyn formerly work
ed for Jack Van Winkle in the
latter's service station here.

week-end with their dauehter.

west Bell. And he's announcing that
telephone customers in Heppner, lone
and Lexington will start using All
Number Calling effective 11 p.m. on
April 28.
"New look" numbers have already
been mailed to telephone users in these
communities. The seven-digit numbers
are also listed in the new 1962 tele
phone books now being delivered to
homes and businesses.
What is All-Number Calling? It's
simple. Instead of the 3, 4 or 5 digit
telephone Bumber you had up to now,
you will have a full 7-digit number. For
example, in Heppner instead of 6-5580,
your new number will be 676-5580.
That's right, you now have a 7-digit
telephone number. There are good rea
sons for switching to the new plan.
Mainly it's the only way to make
enough dialing combinations to cover
our fast-growing population. Numerals
provide about 50 per cent more prefix
combinations than letters. And it cuts
down confusion between "look alikes"
like the letter "0" and the number
Zero, or the letter "I" and the number
