Involved In Accident
Mrs. Ie Pettyjohn and daugh
ters. Patty and Mary Ann, am
Jxtie Snow, daughter of Bill
Snow and Mrs. Virginia George
were Involved In an accident on
Friday evening near the Harvey
Smith ranch. Mrs. Pettyjohn was
returning Jodie home late In the
evening and due to very foggy
conditions, lost control of their
Jeep on a turn about two miles
from the Smith ranch. They had
to walk the remaining distance
for aid. Jodie and Mrs. Petty
John were taken to Pioneer Mem
orial hospital by the fathers.
Jodie stayed overnight for treat
mont to cuts on her face. Seven
stitches were taken in a fore
head gash. The other members
Involved suffered bruises and
slight shock.
Harvey Smith was In Walla
Walla during the wek-end
where he purchased a bull on
Saturday. He returned home on
Sunday.

of Higher Education, stayed at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Milton
Morgan on Monday night. Dr.
Lieuallen was here for the dedi

Club Starts Bird Sanctuary
The lone Garden hud mei ai
the home of Mrs. Llbe Akers
on January 9, with Mrs. Eleanor
Herman and Mrs. Ida Esteb as
co hostesses. Sixteen members
and one visitor answered rou
call by naming birds in our community.
The Garden ciud is inieresieu
n starting a bird sanctuary. The
committee appointed in charge
are Mrs. Omar Rietmann, Mrs.
Bill Rawlins. Mrs. Phil Emert
and Mrs. Ralph Crum. At the
present time there is a number
of bird feeding stations in use
and the club is asking tne coop
eration of the parents to protect
them from children s BB guns.
The club is interested In attrac
ting the birds to their homes
and gardens.
The tree planting committee is
planning a tree pruning demon
stration. Dates will be announ
ced later.
Mr. Betley, who has a slide
collection of wild flowers, offered
to show them to the club and
he is being contacted for the
next meeting of the Garden club.
It was announced at the meet
ing that cup cakes were served
to between 40 and 50 guests at
the observation of the Twelfth
Night services on January 6. Mrs.
Ralph Crum and Mrs. Phil Emert
and their children collected the
trees and greens for the burning.
Arnie Hedman led the fjroup in
singing carols.

been named Morrow county
chairman for the 12 Heart
Fund campaign, according to
Leroy Ehlers, Pendleton, regional
chairman for the annual fund-
raising drive.
Mrs. Charles C. (Delpha) Jones
of Lexington will be Morrow
county co-chairman.
Mrs. Thorne, who was 10
Heart Fund chairman for the
county, has been active in a num
ber of county organizations,
serving as district president of
the American Legion auxiliary
twice. She was also secretary
treasurer for four years and dis
trict deputy president for two
years of the Bunch Grass Re
bekah Lodge No. 91.
She announced the appoint
ment of Marion Green of Hepp
ner as county campaign treas
urer. Mrs. Jones, a Lexington resi
dent for 13 years, is secretary
of the Women's Fellowship
group of the Lexington Christian
church, secretary of Holly Re
bekah lodge, anil past president
of the Morrow county hospital
auxiliary.
The fund-raising campaign is
held annually during the month
of February.
