on a shopping tour to town. Cost
of mailing Christmas cards is
great as they have to be sent
air mail. She says, "this Is one
of the many things I should have
done in the states as well as
shopped for birthday and Christ
mas guts!" Mary Kay Is one of
two women who drive cars there
so they are quite a curiosity.
When going shopping, she must
go to a different "stall" for each
item she needs. She doesn't
speak Turkish and they don't
speak English so the marketing
is truly an adventure. The cuts
of meat are different so she tries
to have it cut into cuts we use
here at home. In the meantime,
there are five boys fighting over
who is going to carry her groc
eries! She picked one boy, then
couldn t remember which one,
and this added to the confusion
until she finally shooed them off,
All items are bought by the kilo.
They have a maid, which is the
rule there, sne aoesn t speaK
English and insists on doing
things her way, so Mary Kay
savs instead or hurting her reel
ings she waits and does it over
later. Today Mary Kay, writes,
"Her (the maid's) mother is
here. I don't know if she is check
ing up on us or her daughter??"
Sounds like an interesting day
in Turkey and educational for
them.
