Christmas Decoration
Made With Mothballs
Bouncing snow balls can be a
rxiiiuoruntiiin Cfntir in VOUf
home. Mothballs In a glass bowl
of colored water can aim an in
teresting decorative note while
moving up and down in the sol
ution, says Esther Kirmls, Mor
row County Extension Agent.
Add about equal parta of an
acid and a base to water and
put mothballs In the solution.
The carbon-dioxide formed by
the chemical combination In sol
ution will collect on the Dom
balls causing them to rise to
itm surface. Here the east es
capes Into the air and the moth
balls sink toward the bottom ior
another load of bubbles. For
decoration add a little food
pf.lf.rini? and float flowers 01
candles on the surface of the
water.
The amount of acid and base
nitrtod will depend on the size
of the container. With a small
bowl start with one teaspoon
each of citric acid and baking
soda. Add more when the reac
tion slows down. Concentrated
white vinegar could be used In
place of the curie acta, uawing
soda Is the easiest base to ob
tain In the home.
An extension circular, "Christ
mas Decorations for your home"
is available at the County Agents
office, (call 6-9G42), says Miss
Kirmls.
